I ushered for a comedian, Felipe Esparza, last night. His first show sold so quickly that they added a second show. He wasn't very funny (I just don't laugh at stories about a dad beating a mom). But the audience was certainly into it. Very different audience from our symphony crowd. They were ready to laugh at what they heard and didn't really care about what they missed. I seated one couple about 30 minutes before the show was over and they didn't seem to mind. Most were there for the drinks and when the bar lines moved too slowly for their tastes, they bought two or more drinks; that, of course, caused the lines to move even slower.
