I just heard GWB talking about  how the Iraqui people should all put their thoughts of personal safety away and go and vote for people who are too afraid to even have their names on thje ballots,  to make it look like his "Plan" such that it is, is working

( I may have paraphased a bit here)

and suddenly a song sprang to mind..yes, unlikely as that may  be, a song sprang to mind and here is a snippet:

"Go, ye heroes, go to glory,
Though you die in combat gory,
Ye shall live in song and story.
Go to immortality!
Go to death, and go to slaughter;
Die, and every Cornish daughter
With her tears your grave shall water.
Go, ye heroes, go and die!"

HERE ENDETH THE RANT

I always associate the Jerry Mahoney Club with the New York blackout of 1965. That's what I was watching when the lights went out!!!

Media check:

DVD: Various episodes of WAGON TRAIN

CD: Yvonne DeCarlo (in care of DR Michael Shayne), and the soundtrack of Pakeezah (again)! JRand54 got me hooked!

and my Bollywood movie this week is: TERE GHAR KE SAMNE (1963) which I started watching last night...a very amusing comedy starring Dev Anand and Nutan.

I’d like to join DR RON,  give my vote to Elton John’s songs for a new record, dear BK. And...besides the songs DR RON mentioned, Your Song, Levon and Can You Feel The Love Tonight would be given.

Speaking of Elton John songs for Mr. Guy Haines, what do you think he would think of Amoreena?
"Amoreena"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Tumbleweed Connection

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lately I've been thinking how much I miss my lady
Amoreena's in the cornfield brightening the daybreak
Living like a lusty flower, running through the grass for hours
Rolling through the hay like a puppy child

And when it rains the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
And she's far away somewhere in her eiderdown
And she dreams of crystal streams
Of days gone by when we would lean
Laughing fit to burst upon each other

I can see you sitting eating apples in the evening
The fruit juice flowing slowly, slowly, slowly
Down the bronze of your body
Living like a lusty flower, running through the grass for hours
Rolling through the hay like a puppy child

Oh if only I could nestle in the cradle of your cabin
My arms around your shoulders the windows wide and open
While the swallow and the sycamore are playing in the valley
Oh I miss you Amoreena like a king bee misses honey

Lately I've been thinking how much I miss my lady
Amoreena's in the cornfield brightening the daybreak
Living like a lusty flower, running through the grass for hours
Rolling through the hay like a puppy child

I'm already missing DR François. The weekend does not seem the same.. Being at the computer at 2.50am is a touch different too!

Congratulations OzDerek - so pleased that your media watch included "Magnolias" and not those of the Steel kind!

Many, many thanks to DR Elmore for the copy of LADY IN THE DARK he gave me. It's an interesting production. I assume since this soundtrack was made, the video of the show is also available for viewing. The next time I'm in NYC, I'll have to drop my the Museum of TV and Radio and watch it.

Ann Sothern's vocal work is variable in quality, but I'm sure seeing AND hearing her on TV would be a different experience since she had such presence. It was never just about her singing voice. Carleton Carpenter did just fine with "Tchaikovsky."

The more I hear this score in its various versions, the more I like it.

[sigh] It never rains but it pours. TOnight at 10, there are three shows I'd like to see: USA'S MONK, CBS' NUMBERS, and NBC's MEDICAL INVESTIGATION. Thankfully, there are VCRs and DVRs to capture everything so nothing will be missed, but why do certain time periods get cluttered with so many interesting shows and other nights are wastelands?

The roofers are here and are making lots of noise.

There is a big condo complex going up in the lot across the narrow side street from my house (meaning that the machines are very close). It has been going on two months, and I suspect it'll be four to six more months of beeping bulldozers and rumbling earth packers that make my entire house vibrate to its foundations. I have not been a happy camper about it.
