William F. Orr,  it is "all of it lovely".  I check my Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart.  I know it from a lovely version of it by Bobby Short.  It's from a show BY JUPITER which has several Rogers/Hart songs Mr. Haines might wish to take a look at:

Nobody Heart Belongs To Me (Heigh Ho, who cares?)

Everything I've Got Belongs To You -- This is a great duet song, which Guy is looking for, originally done by Ray Bolger and Benay Venuta with lyrics like:  "I've a powerful anesthesia in my fist/And the perfect wrist to give your neck a twist/ There are hammerlock holds/I've master a few/And everything I've got belongs to you

If Mr Haines is looking for "Everything I've Got," all he has to do is ask me since I have a score to BY JUPITER, a score I love nearly as much as THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE!  Unfortunately, the great "Nothng to Do But Relax," which Ben Bagley recorded, is unpublished, and I wish R&H would consider doing a book of the unpublished songs.

Back to work, Heigh Ho!

If there are no dogs in Heaven, I ain't going.  Of course, who says it's my choice?  I may not be going anyway...certainly there must be those who wish me a plummet as opposed an ascension.

Those two are far more ready for music than their parents realize.  With any luck, we've created a couple of little monsters!

Guy is looking for duet songs; I'm merely recommending Everything I Got.  But I think it would be a good one.  I'm fond of Blossom Dearie's rendition of Nothing To Do But Relax on the Bagley album...the only version I've ever heard.  I think Mr. Haines could give it the same sort of genial insousiance that he conveys on If I Had My Druthers.

So of course to get the lyric right I google.  It's always hit and miss with song lyrics, because so many people post them from listening to records, and you see all the mondegreens.

From www.spiritofsinatra.com :

Painters of painting, drivers of gloom never could tell the height

But a Ray Charles site tells me, quite correctly, that it is

Pensive and sweet and wise  (not "simple")

Actually, I've seen a lot of those drivers of gloom on my morning commute, Mr. Sinatra.

elmore, it's always cringing to see my spelling errors appear in other people's posts when they re-print my post.  It is, of course, Nobody's Heart Belongs to Me, which I've corrected now in the original.

I, too, love BOYS FROM SYRACUSE.  Do you have the complete score to BY JUPITER because you worked on a restoration recording of it...Don't I remember something about that in your unseemingly interview?  If so, please refresh my memory...this is probably a recording I should have.

I went back and scanned your unseemly interview, elmore.  Alas, I was thinking of JUBILEE...not BY JUPITER.  But I probably need JUBILEE too!

So many wonderful song suggestions.  Ultimately, it all boils down to fifteen songs and those songs have to work with each other to make a satisfying album.  I love this part - just hearing old songs, new songs, familiar and unfamiliar songs.

TD, now are you doing today? I have been thinking about you.

i'm still sorta-sorta.  going to bed last night without taking her for her late-night walk was hard, but even more difficult was getting up this morning and NOT taking her for her long morning walk.
I spent a great deal of time playing with Miss Dixie Bell, though and sorting through all of the sympathetic missives arriving by email.
still teary-eyed when i turn around from the computer to NOT see her there behind me on 'her' sofa. .  .
As for a Media Check, since one of Minx' quirks was to sit very close to the speakers during the opening segment of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, I watched that up until Harve Presnell's appearance, in her memory.  The other thing she really was fond of was me hitting a high G, but, it's still a little early in the day for that.  besides, it would be quite unseemly for me to go that high before 8pm.

my dear pal sent me the following last night once he had the news.

" Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together... "

DR WFO - thanks for SCARING me to death with that Jerry Mahoney picture!

At least the Farfel one settled me down a bit.  There used to be a Jerry Mahoney doll in the prop room at the Phoenix Theatre - it had been used in THREE GUYS NAKED FROM THE WAIST DOWN - and it was always in a different place - even though no one touched it.  It just moved around by itself...I know it did.

DR CP - Just tell the story and let the family skip over the post.  We need Yvonne (Peggy) deCarlo information.  In fact she should be followed around by someone with a pen writing down everything she says.

Back issues of Scarlet Street are available for a reasonable price VIXMOM, and it is an interesting magazine.  The forums are lively at times as well.

DR CP - I think you missed my post a couple of days ago.  I saw a different Gorton's Fisherman the other day....has Denny moved on?

Since so many Hainsies/Kilmlets are in the issue DR CP mentioned, I did just order it.  When I get it and have had a good read, I may have to send it "round robin" and cross county to gather the autographs of all you esteemed HHW contributers!!

William F. Orr,  it is "all of it lovely".  I check my Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart.  I know it from a lovely version of it by Bobby Short.

"Oy!" he said, slapping his forehead with the palm of his hand.  Because he has The Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart sitting on the shelf in his office within easy reach of the computer.

And yes, Mr. Guy Haines must do something by Weill.

For uptempo, "Nowhere to Go But Up" from Knickerbocker Holiday.  Or "It Never Was You".  I don't think "That's Him" (One Touch of Venus) would quite work for a male vocalist, no matter what perspective you use.  Pity, because it is truly charming and a Guy Haines kind of song.

Has a man ever recorded "The Story of Jenny"?  Now that's a song Bobby Darin should have got his teeth into!

But I ramble.  Of course, as Steven Schwartz said, "Teachers belong where they can ramble."

I didn’t post or visit the site yesterday because I had a deadline – which I’ve now met. But I also didn’t post or read the posts because I was truly upset by Wednesday’s events. I tried posting on Wednesday night as if nothing had happened. I made the usual joking posts, asked questions, made observations, but my heart wasn’t in it.
I’ve now had time to reflect and here’s what I’ve decided.
I cannot come back to Haines His Way unless the member who posted a post that, in my opinion, and the opinion of over twenty messages I received, overstepped the boundaries of decorum and good taste, apologizes. What makes this site unique -- along with the sparkling conversation and wonderfully bright and kind people who populate it -- is the civilized and caring attitudes we exhibit toward one another. Not that we cannot have disagreements. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I would be suspicious of anyone who agreed with every single pearl of wisdom that dropped out of my mouth.

But the particular post to which I refer, regardless of how I feel about its objective accuracy, has no place on this website. It discussed private and delicate matters and did not belong in a public forum. I asked Bruce at the time that he request of the member the removal of the post. Bruce, although sympathetic, felt that this would be censorship and declined to do so. I totally understand his viewpoint. But I also understand that I cannot remain here unless the member who posted that particular post simply apologizes on the site  – with no editorial comment. Once this is done, I’ll be happy to continue on HHW and consider the whole thing the blip in the universe it truly was. If, however, the member is unwilling to do so, then, as much as I cherish the friendships which are a direct result of HHW and Bruce; as much as I consider the site a second home; and as much as I truly enjoy taking part in the daily ritual of reading the Notes, discussing the TOD, sharing in the lives of each person here – in spite of all that, I cannot return.

I would ask of the DRs that, whatever happens, they not take sides in this on the site. There is no need for any more unpleasantness than this thing has already caused.
Good vibes to you all.

Oh dear ~ almost 300 posts to go .... can you lovely folk at HHW cope with that many "oh so witty" (not) postings from the DR?

I think that Jerry Mahoney was the model for all those freaky murdering ventriloquist dummies in various Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and rip-off movies that repeat the theme endlessly.  I remember one in Friday the Thirteen, the television series, not to be confused with the forty-seven movie sequels with the same title.

Does anyone know anything about a 1994 studio recording of a show called Lunch? Miss Paige just played a track from the show. It was Carol Burnett singing a song called Alone. Intriguing. I don't know anything about the show. I shall have to interrupt my work to surf the net and find what I can about this concoction.

I have this CD.  I don't listen to it very often, but I do like it a lot.  I love Faith Prince's song ("I'm No Angel" which has the line, "Lick me like a stamp" :o ) and Laurie Beechman's song is just beautiful (she could do no wrong...in my humble opinion).
