Fun stuff - I found a Joni Mitchell CD from 2000 called Both Sides Now - in it, her producer brags how Joni had this absolutely brilliant and completely unique idea that had never been done before - to tell a love story from its beginning to its end and starting the cycle over again, using existing songs to tell the story. I mean he is bragging about this. I guess the little fact that I had done exactly that three years prior with A Broadway Love Story with Christiane Noll is just a pesky little detail to be ignored. Sorry, chump, I got there first and frankly did it better, because the Mitchell album, while well meaning and well orchestrated by Vince Mendoza, doesn't really work as ours does. It took me seven months to figure out A Broadway Love Story so it was really telling a story with a real through-line and character, with musical ideas from one song appearing in another. I would have to put that album in my top five of all I've produced. But yes, Joni's idea was absolutely brilliant, completely unique and had never been done before.
