Jane, I tried the CBD cream again today. It does help, but it's not instant--I don't think any of the topicals will provide immediate relief. There's a bit of an odor to it. I didn't find the odor too strong or at all offensive, but I prefer no odor. It's also expensive: $45 for a jar. My fave is still the Arnica Rub, which is $12-14 for approximately the same amount, and NO smell at all. Both absorb well and are not at all greasy. I'll continue to use the CBD just in case there's a cumulative effect, which there isn't with the Arnica Rub.

The one I'm using is CBD Clinic (that's the brand) Revolutionary Pain Relief Professional Series Level 3 MODERATE Muscle and joint pain relief #750. My doctor's supplier said that they've had very good feedback on this product. Maybe it works better for others than it does for me, or maybe those folks never used the Arnica Rub.

Up from a too-short nap. It's still hot out there.

Watching George M. Cohan in The Phantom President with songs by Rodgers and Hart. Right now, Cohan is doing a patriotic number in blackface. What's interesting is, is that Cohan's dancing really resembles Cagney's.

Claudette Colbert is charming, and Jimmy Durante is a joy. He's doing some of his own material, which makes me wonder what Rodgers and Hart thought.

Thanks for the report.  I am sorry it doesn't work better and hope it does have a cumulative effect.  I wouldn't want an odor either even if it wasn't offensive.

Back from a really fun workshop - most fun yet - then some of us went to Barone's - I had just three slices, the equivalent of two.

Now I'm home and staying here - really hot out.  Listening to music right now.  And picked up a couple of packages, too.

Is that the movie some people say was a precursor to "Dave?" (was this discussed here?)

The Times has an article on the actor who committed suicide after the treatment at "Chicago."

What that article finally confirms is that the rehearsal was certainly not the only factor in his suicide.  Many of us said this from the beginning, but all the people posting and putting out information wanted it to seem like that was the only cause - his partner, his cousin, all the information was coming only from one side.  It's never just one thing and I'm glad this reporter didn't just run with the story without checking on what other mitigating factors there might have been and clearly were.

I think he did some of his own material later in JUMBO.

Listening to more Lucy Reed (my smartness in buying these twenty years ago was amazing - my stupidness in not listening to them was, well, equally amazing).  I love this woman's voice and her interpretations are really interesting.  You've never heard a Love for Sale like hers.  I think that arrangement is by Gil Evans.  She only made two albums in the 1950s and then one in the 1990s.  And a range that's beyond belief - just when you think she can't go any higher she goes higher.

No viewing this evening.  I brought thirty more CDs in the house and I'm just having too much fun listening.

This may be where it gets odd.  Are we to believe the people at "Chicago" knew nothing about his partner having lost his income, and lots of all these factors mentioned?  That no one knewthey were taking away his and his partner's only source of income?

I also put this in that other posting area. Remember: if they fired him, he'd get his buyout plus unemployment insurance at least.  What they were trying to do instead was shame him into  quitting voluntarily - which of course meant not getting the 30,000 buyout, and obviously no unemployment insurance - nothing!   No cushion to ease him back.
