Well, you've read the notes, the notes raved, and now it is time for you to post until the raving cows come home.

And just last month (on August 30th), I bought the digital download to the Oscar Levant 8-CD set!  I rarely buy MP3s, but it was on sale for only $9.99 (plus tax).  The downside is that there's no packaging, not even a digital booklet.  But the sound is great, even for MP3s.

It just happens that I’m seeing Won’t You Be My Neighbor? this evening at the three dollar theater...a venue 20 minutes away that I so rarely think to check listings for. (They all too rarely show things I’d actually be interested in, which is why.)

Mr. Rogers wasn’t even close to my generation of TV watching, of course, but I readily admit to being one who, seeing moments of the show here and there, thought it was silly. Then again, I would have thought that about any number of shows, glimpsing them as an adult. Fortunately, my change of thinking on Rogers came about as I’d see him being interviewed or participating in other things over the years, so by the time I heard about this film, I was already in tune with it. Looking forward to it.

TOD

Ding Dong School (was that Miss Frances?)
Romper Room
Captain Kangaroo
Howdy Doody
Shari Lewis and Lambchops
Mickey Mouse Club

I think there was another early one or two produced at the local station in Columbus. A quick search yielded one called Flippo the Clown, the title of which at least rings a bell...

Since most of the choice Porgy snd Bess recordings in my collection are on LP, my highly anticipated P&B listening the other day was greatly compromised by a fault in the phono preamp which has decided to quit playing the right channel. It’s a decent piece of equipment that I’ll have to get repaired (or God forbid replaced) eventually, but this also gives me the push I needed to get system #2 set up and operating which is something I’ve looked forward to for years. The challenge is space. The rewards are so worth it, but this stuff takes up some room, man.

TOD:

Superman - I bought the DVD's.

Roy Rogers - a local station still shows it on Saturdays, and sometimes I watch....I still hate Pat Brady and Nellie Belle - but the rest of it is okay.

Rocky Jones - a space opera that didn't have ENOUGH episodes....great special effects of rocket ships and space....

I was too old for Mr Rogers and Sesame Street, although I watched SS with my sister Molly.  Our favorite program to watch together though was ZOOM....

Barnum is sitting on his swing and talking back to the parakeet CD that I have been playing for him......  His store closed at 9 p.m. and he was up past 11 p.m. last night, so he is tired today.

Once the show ends on Sunday, he can get back on his regular schedule.

Oscar Levant was one of the guests I always looked forward to on The Jack Paar Show on Friday nights....Levant, Dodie Goodman, Genevieve, and Selma Diamond were always a lot of fun - even though I didn't understand everything they were talking about.

I read Levant's autobiography which I liked.  On the Paar show, he talked about his favorite review of his work:  "Last night Oscar Levant left his contemporaries and his conductor far behind....."

"Three Dollar Theater" sound like it would be a wonderful take-off on the old "Million Dollar Movie."

"Million Dollar Movie" opening - the theme sounds a lot like Tara's Theme.
