I finally finished Split and enjoyed it.  I thought James McAvoy was very good, but I just loved watching Betty Buckley, except...

Today, I need to leave work early to go to a production meeting for The Rocky Horror Show.  Several props that I ordered from Amazon came on Friday, and another is supposed to be coming today.  I also ordered four special "Concession Tray with Strap" from this party store in Minnesota.  The director found them and sent me the link.  Amazon didn't have what he wanted, and I couldn't find anything he liked (and for some reason, didn't want them handmade).  Since he knew what he wanted, he was able to find them.  Those are expected to arrive on Thursday.

There'll be a rehearsal after the production meeting, but I can't stay for that.  My friend Margo and I are going to see the rebroadcast of National Theatre's filmed live stage production of Frankenstein with Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein and Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature.

Next week, they switch roles.  I don't know if I'll be able to see that because The Rocky Horror Show opens on that next Wednesday.  If all the props are working and what the director wants, I might be able to see it.  We'll see if I can see it. :)

TOD:

I think my biggest problem is finding the time to go to the theater. I don't get finished with things early enough in the evening to get to a performance. I've missed a few local productions of shows that I'd have liked to see. Right now, I understand there's a fun production of Avenue Q in town. Won't get to it.

It's a hugely busy one for the likes of me. I always try to schedule things so Monday isn't a total assault, but I do have several things that must be done today.

As I'm usually the last person to notice a trend, I hadn't been aware of "light bumps" until seeing HELLO, DOLLY! this year.

Oh my. All of a sudden, there they were. And as soon as something like that enters your consciousness, you can never un-know or un-see it.

I'm home all morning since my physical is at 11:30.  Following that, I will head down to City Center to deliver the score to Joshie and hear about his week in North Carolina.

I agree with BK had to say about theater audiences. I went to a preview of a regional production of The Pirates Of Penzance. The audience was family and friends. The bad manners happened with a small section of the audience of younger people who were obviously the friends of the younger performers on the stage.

I think live theater started its downhill spiral when they started selling concessions to be taken into the auditorium. Now it looks like a movie theater afterwards in there.

T.O.D.

My biggest problem of going to the theater now, is sitting in the audience.  I want to be up on the stage doing, rather than watching.

Other than that, all of the things that BK mentioned, plus late arrivals.  I know things happen.... car accidents, late babysitters, traffic; but some people just make a habit of running late to everything.  And most theaters don't follow their own rules about latecomers being seated only during the breaks.  They rush them down (usually they are in the first ten rows) and instead of being extremely quiet, everyone is saying excuse me as they get settled.  It happens at movies also, but at live theater it is so distracting, not only to the rest of the audience, but to the actors trying to perform onstage.

And now, several area theaters have changed their start times to 7:30 in stead of 8:00.  That makes for more latecomers.

As an actor, I enjoy the 7:30 start, because it means you can get out of the theater at a more reasonable time.
