Today I see my doctor, but I couldn't get in before 4:30, so I am going to be in a lot of pain by the time I get home this afternoon or evening.

I think I may take a nap this morning.  Or study my script.  Or both.

Apparently a fight broke out at a symphony concert in Sweden over audience behavior.

I think live theater started its downhill spiral when they started selling concessions to be taken into the auditorium. Now it looks like a movie theater afterwards in there.

Fortunately, here in Olympia, most theater companies still don't allow food into their theaters (I think one might, but I'm not exactly sure about that).  One allows drinks in plastic cups (even without a lid), and the rest only allow bottled water or drinks that are in what are referred to as adult sippy cups.  Those have lids that snap on tightly so they don't pop off if they're dropped.  The lids aren't necessarily spill-proof or water-tight, but they do prevent the liquid from draining very quickly.

And now, several area theaters have changed their start times to 7:30 in stead of 8:00.  That makes for more latecomers.

Olympia Little Theatre for some strange reason has their start time at 7:25.  What's that all about?? :-\

I found the wine in the aisles at "Fiddler on the Roof" the last Broadway revival surprising, but the "To Life, L'Chaim" tie-in made sense.

I realize that the theaters make a lot of money off the concessions. However, I really think they are taking unfair advantage of their volunteer ushers who have to go through each aisle picking up trash and cleaning up the sticky floors.

As to the yelling and hollering and the mid-show standing ovations:  Musicals and comedies with all the laughing and clapping seem to be feeling like a key part of what's unique is making it a shared experience, an event which can’t be duplicated at home, not matter how great your system is.

At the Washington Center, we ushers don't have to pick up icky trash (like tissues or spilled drinks), just the cups and water bottles and programs and tickets.  Things like that.

Subtle dramas only work for me if we have good seats.  In a small house, it's never a problem.  But it's feeling somehow like on Broadway, the director probably sits only where the critics are going to sit, and unless you're there, a drama on TV gives the same effect from other areas.

Longest doctor's appointment ever!  I called Joshie and told him I wasn't coming in.  I'll see him tomorrow.

As an actor, I enjoy the 7:30 start, because it means you can get out of the theater at a more reasonable time.

I prefer it so I don't fall asleep during the show ;)

In Vegas :o  And there were tables ;D  Yes a bit surprising considering they don't drink, or shouldn't.

I hope that was quality time with the doctor and not sitting and waiting time.

Monday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I are preparing to leave tomorrow for a driving trip to Memphis, Vicksburg, and Natchez and a drive home along the Natchez Trace Parkway.  He has clergy meetings in Memphis Thursday and Friday, then we're vacationing the rest of the trip.  I've been to a noon book discussion at the library where my career began and this evening I'm going with some book friends to hear Emily St. John Mandel, author of Station Eleven

Here’s to a very enjoyable trip, DR Ginny!

I still want to drive the Natchez Trace Parkway sometime. I love roads like that.
