Aside from my home state of Oregon, I have only been to California and Washington (I don't get out much, evidently).

DR Jennifer, the Family TAR sounds like it would be interesting.

DR ELMORE - can you imagine the hair-pulling and bra-twisting?

And the actresses would be even worse.

Oh, my gosh JRand54, that made me guffaw out loud...and caused a few co-workers to ask that was so funny!

Back from Chinese lunch -- at Shan Dung, a Szechuan restaurant in Oakland's Chinatown district.

Had the house specialty -- Shan Dung chicken with a side of braised green beans.

Totally YUM.

Lots of fireworks went off during the wee hours this morning...woke me up around 1 a.m.  I heard more at lunch...and evidence of thousands of firecrackers going off litter the streets.

I had a humdinger of an "irritant" reaction to a co-worker's perfume this morning.  Several sneezing attacks perpetrated serious queries about why I was sneezing, so I said what it was that was causing the problem.  My boss stopped short of excoriating the co-worker who was wearing twice her normal dose of whatever it was...but she won't make that mistake again.  She worked only half a day today, so the afternoon should be irritant-free, except for another co-worker who sits opposite me...but that's another story altogether.

I'm not fond of the idea of revising books to musicals, or rewriting them entirely.  Too often this practice does not result in an improved show, but rather one that highlights the flaws that were in the original.  And yes (and sorry, Jose), I include Hallelujah, Baby! in this catagory.  As well as Into the Woods.

In the case of musicals that have new books written for them, and totally reconceive the piece, they are far and few between.  Personally, I liked Flower Drum Song when the revisal played in Los Angeles.  But some way of distinguishing this new script should have been found, to keep it from being confused with the original.

What disturbs me most about revisals is that the new version becomes the standard, and the original is removed from the market entirely.  This is a shame, as it may well be the original production (and cast recording) that attracted the attention of the new theater wanting to produce the show.

States I have lived in-Southern California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, Northern California and Oregon.  Southern and Northern California felt like different states. ;D

Sates I have been to are Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Ohio, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico (but only to sit on it at the four corners), Idaho (I think), Florida, Louisiana, New York, Virginia, Main, Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire. Hawaii and Alaska.
Wow, I have been busy. :)

I would like to go to New Mexico, Idaho while traveling to Montana, and visit friends in Kentucky.  I would gladly return to most of the states I have visited.  Keith has been to every state so I wouldn’t mind catching up to him.

Who has been to Mesa Verde in Colorado?  An amazing place I want to return to.

I'm going to see if I have any packages.  I'll be back shortly.

We have a Cracker Barrell restaurant here in Rehoboth.  The service wasn't terrible, other than the server having too many tables to work at the same time.  The food was what bothered me.  It struck me as food made by and for people who don't like to eat.

Speaking of perfume, I found the following story over at IMDB:

Sarah Jessica Parker To Launch Fragrance

Former Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker has signed a new deal to develop her own line of fragrances. The brand name and the exact perfume scent are still works in progress, but the stylish star says the first perfume - to be issued by Coty Inc - will be "fresh." She explains, "It'll be intentionally quiet, not a very aggressive scent. It's not a scent you'll smell before a person walks in a room. I don't want it to not have social skills! This is a part of my life I want to share with others... I really, really thought about it. I've been invited into women's lives and I take that seriously." Fragrance is something that has been important since her childhood. When she went to the hospital to give birth to her son, James, two years ago, Parker admits she brought her perfume because it's an important part of her daily routine. She adds, "Fragrance is a necessity on days you don't have time to shower." The fragrance is expected to hit stores in the autumn.

A necessity on days you...uh...EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!

I never really had the Abner pantheon of characters as a cultural reference point as it wasn't in any of the papers I knew growing up, so that may be a part of how I do not relate as much to that show. However, every song is a near masterpiece, in that we can agree. "The Country's in the Very Best of Hands" is truer today than when it was written.

Actually, the whole "Put 'em Back" business is now metaphorical for the steroid madness infecting athletic types.

I really do not advocate taking the songs from a show and creating a new show. T'was purely rhetorical. But have you (anyone) ever HATED a show and loved the tunes?

I like the Cracker Barrels along US 95 south of the Dixon Mason Line, of course keep in mind I am comparing them to the Denny's or McDonalds we would be stopping at otherwise since there do not seem to be such a thing as a DINER anywhere outside of New York ,or am I wrong DR's, all ? Correct me if I am.  Here on Long Island nearly every little town, Village, Hamlet, etc has a  Diner, open 24 hours a day where you can get breakfast or a steak dinner at any time of day (or night)

Ahhhh....DRRODZINSKI - Invasion! is the movie that THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA claimed to be.

It is a hilarious spoof/homage to WAR OF THE WORLDS in particular and the 1950's sci-fi films in general.

We have a diner right here in Rehoboth Beach.  It's called (ta-dah!) the Rehoboth Beach Diner!  And it's open 24/7 all year (except Christmas).

Check on-line next time you're planning a trip, and see what the different bergs enroute have to offer!  It's a great way to make your trip more enjoyable.

You youngun, you,  ;D   next you'll be telling us you don't remember Pogo  "We have met the enemy and he is us"

Now there's a musical waiting to be written ! (I'm not showing my ignorance of an existing musical of Pogo am I?) C'mon, bk, elmore, WFO, CP and all, write me a musical of Pogo...and make sure I get some nice house seats, because remember, my talent is the art of appreciation of the talents of others!!  :D

Personally, I think this would be a HUMDINGER of a show!!!

When I travel with the the DH all stops must be  "right off the exit"  ;D,

when I did the same trip with my Mom we would wander fifty or sixty miles off the track to eat someplace that seemed interesting in the AAA guide.

RE the Oscar nominees all being on stage. I think this is cruel and inhuman punishment. It's one thing to be a good sport about losing, but to have to be a good sport and hide obvious disappointment in front of many millions of people is perhaps asking a bit too much. Frankly, if I knew I was going to have to do that, I wouldn't attend the ceremony.

Uh, no.

But that's because I don't use the word "hate" in that way any more.  I reserve that word to describe what Fred Phelps and his ilk do.  I may have "loathed" a show while loving the tunes, but that's different.

More often, I'll love the score but be driven to distraction by the book.  Chess is an example of this, for me.  I've seen it twice, in London and in Long Beach, with vastly different books.  It's a great score!  The book, however, will probably never work properly, at least not until we are far enough from the Cold War to see the show in a historical perspective.
