Back from a sloppy rehearsal. The guy who usually operates the playing of the tracks had a non-working car and rather than actually letting someone know about it so that someone could pick him up, he just didn't show up. So, Doug had to do it and knew nothing about how any of it worked. And of course two actresses were out, with Alexa covering both, which is, needless to say, not optimal but thankfully she can do it. And then the actress who thinks she's lost her voice (I think her voice is just fine, but it's hard to get people out of their own heads about this sort of thing) - she's going to see a vocal coach about the way in which she's singing. So it was a backwards kind of night and I didn't really take notes, just told everyone that this week is going to be hard and that no one can let it throw them into reverse, we always have to keep the train on the tracks and moving forward. I don't think folks really understand how crippling it is when we have to rehearse like this and how harmful it is to the show. But that's 99-seat theatre for you. I really have to think about whether I want to do another show like this next year. You work hard, you get everyone off book early, you get the show up on its feet in record time and then we have a week like this.
