Just an update on my job situation. As some of you may remember, I was hired on as an interum director of music at a Catholic church here in the SF Bay Area, but couldn't be given a title or a salary until the person that was there before me officially quit. Well, it looks like the administration has decided to put me on salary now!!! We're still not sure what's going on with the other guy, but they do have to hold the job for him legally - as he can not physically do the job.

Anyhow, I spoke to the other guy today, and he's coming in on Wednesday to clean up his stuff, sounds like he's finally admitting that he can't physically do the job anymore and is pulling out. It's good news all around.

We're going out to celebrate the "salary" part of the job tonight - going to Buca di Beppo (where I will try and remember to have pizza!!) It's getting close to actually having a title also, so that's really exciting.

I've got a great acoustical choir loft, a real pipe organ, a Kawaii 1/2 grand piano, a built in cantor, a great associcate that works with the kids and the contemporary choir, and an adult choir that's under my direction. (with 3 paid section leaders) Life is good - I've arrived!!!

Hey, HI!!

Yes, I had a lovely dinner with the lovely Elmoore last night, at Artie's. I am fighting a cold, so chicken soup was my choice - in a BIG way. Chicken in the pot, like in the old days, back in the shtetl.

Anyhow - I'm working on the program for the show, and need BK's quarter-page ad for his novel! The pages are 5 1/4 x 8 1/2. (letter size, folded and stapled in the middle). Sorry, no color except the front cover. One quarter page, black and white, in pdf, so I can just paste it into my Pagemaker file, needed ASAP!

Piano loaned by Beethoven Pianos of 58th Street - they get an ad, too. And now I'm working on the insurance policy - short term limited liability. Oh, the details!! I may even get to rehearsing this sucker at some point. Load in is 4 weeks from Monday!!!!!

And I checked with Tony at the Clurman box office yesterday, and found TWELVE Hainsies had actually purchased tix so far in advance!! OOOhhhhh! It's really happening. (got Jose's bio for the program yesterday or the day before... bit by bit...)

I have had pizza! It was Palermo's Primo Thin (ultra-thin crust pizza). The description on the box is "A Crispy Thin Crust Pizza Topped with Italian Style Cheeses and a Garlicky mixture of Tomatoes and Basil." "Garlicky"?? Well, I didn't notice much garlic at all. There was a clump of basil right in the middle that I had to spread out after it was cooked. But it was good. MMM!

Jose, no rush on the cookies. I am trying to loose a few pounds and it won’t be long before I have Girl Scout cookies.

I know how it feels to loose your favorite radio station to news and talk shows. It has happened to me twice now. Soon you will be in NY where I expect they have a great selection of stations.

Today we went to the home show and had this incredible caramel corn that melts in your mouth. How can corn melt in your mouth you ask? Because it is made without hulls and kernels, how I don’t know. Check out the website.

Der Brucer and I have yet to find a good pizza place here in Rehoboth. Can't have everything, I guess.

As for Buca di Beppo, it's a nationwide chain. But I haven't been to any of their locations as of yet.

Bruce, as Jose and Stuart have mentioned, Jay is busy at the moment. I’m sure he will be back. Maybe one day Noel will return but his departure is a reminder for us to be gentle towards others when sharing our different opinions.

Danise you might call the hotel and ask if they have a hair dryer and an iron on request. I would take the hair dryer to be safe and leave the iron at home.

I haven’t had pizza in ages, now I’m craving it but I’m not going out for any. I’m going to have scrambled eggs, basmati and broccoli for dinner.

I enjoy ethnic food very much and am always ready to try new foods, providing they are vegetarian and not too hot.

Jane, out of curiosity, how do you handle the situation when you are out with friends, and by mistake you end up in a restaurant that is not vegetarian friendly?

I had this happen to a co-worker, when the unit boss decided we should head over to Stewart Anderson's Black Angus for our Christmas lunch one year. She was quite gracious about the situation, but several of us felt badly for her.

Hi, all - Today should have been a work Saturday for me, but I took a vacation day to attend an event called "Books, Brunch, and Boas," sponsored by Middletown AAUW. The speaker was author Sue Buchanan, a 22-year cancer survivor who has written books for both adults and children. My favorite title is I'm Alive and the Doctor's Dead. There were almost 300 people there, including many friends I don't see often (working out of town, you know). There were also lovely creative gift baskets and other items for raffle - I tried for the chocolate basket, the socks basket, the knitting basket, and a gift certificate for a 1-hour massage. Zip! Oh, well, the ticket sales went to good cause, the women's health wing at our local hospital.

Got home from there, had a snack of pizza leftover from last night (Donato's thin crust with chicken and green peppers), took a nap, and then went with DH Richard to see "Million Dollar Baby." We've now seen 3 of the 5 best picture Oscar nominees - still need to see "The Aviator" and "Ray."

All in all, it's been a delightful vacation day.

E-mail is easy to send: just write and click. HHW takes a bit more dedication, catching up on your daily journal and all the posts. I remember when der B and I were driving cross-country, we had a lot of difficulty even logging onto the Internet, much less keep up with all that was going on with everyone.

Jane, Betsy hasn't accepted the radio offer yet. She's going through her standard gnashing-of-the-teeth weighing pros and cons at the moment. I get to listen a lot.

The good thing is, she wouldn't just be doing news if she accepts. The bad thing is, she would still have to get up before the veritable crack of dawn, and also would not be able to keep either her ED job or the extremely well-paying contract she has with an environmental organization. So we'll have to see.

I, of course, continue on my career path (more of an unmarked wilderness trail, actually) unabated.

TOD - exotic foods - every October for the last 25 years there has been an international festival, Middfest, here in Middletown, Ohio, of all places. Each year there's a featured country and much of the programming is devoted to that country, but the outdoor food court has a wonderful assortment of all kinds of ethnic foods. One of the perennial favorites is the Aussie burger, a grilled hamburger topped with a fried egg - DR Tomovoz, can you verify that this is authentic? Also, DR Jose, one of my favorite booths has always been the Phillipine food - skewered pork, some noodle dish, and wonderful skinny eggrolls.

There is usually something to eat and often the chef will create a dish for me, especially at a nice restaurant. I do eat some fish which makes it easier for me. I’m surprised the chef at the restaurant didn’t do something for your co-worker. There is always a baked potato with vegetables.
