Last night I followed through with my plan to watch THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, and had a great time with it. It was the perfect thing for the evening.
You know what's always wonderful about these anthologies, along with everything else? The casting. As I go through them I might find an exception or two to that, but this one scores 100. Of course Lee and Cushing are impeccable in their every role, but all of the supporting cast -- Denholm Elliott, Ingrid Pitt, the wonderful young Chloe Franks -- are a gift. The score is fine and quite HAUNTING-ish, as BK said.
So, the UK DVD is the winner except for the inevitable PAL speedup, but nothing about that bothered me on this film. The US one includes a 17-minute interview with Amicus producer Max Rosenberg which is perfectly enjoyable, but the UK one has an audio commentary I want to hear, and a few other goodies. I shall eventually have to upgrade to the Blu-ray and hope that Shout! Factory did a good job with it.
