So, last night...at long last...TALES THAT WITNESS MADNESS.
I'm happy I went in with low expectations because it turned out not to be as bad as I'd been led to expect. It's just not, you know, "great". I guess one can blame the writing because the cast, the look and feel of the film, etc., are all fine. But somehow, Freddie Francis and the non-Amicus producers dropped the ball in elevating this one to the next level. The framing story rather lamely imitates that of ASYLUM, and the first three stories contain no real surprises. The fourth, however, could succeed on Kim Novak's presence alone. Fifteen years after the VERTIGO and BELL BOOK & CANDLE era she's as drop dead gorgeous and commanding as ever, and her on-screen time is generous and worth the price of admission.
