Annabelle is risking total extinction this morning.  It began last night when she decided it was fun to watch cans of Fancy Feast drop into Thatch's water bowl and see water splash everywhere.  This morning she's tossed things off the computer table and tried to take apart the printer.

The only Kurt Weill I cannot warm up to are his early compositions in which he's still a "modern composer" of the 1920s, and they're a hard go for me. From 1928, with The Threepenny Opera on, there's little I dislike.  I am quite fond of these musicals and operas:
The Threepenny Opera
The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny
Happy End
Marie Galante
The Seven Deadly Sins
Knickerbocker Holiday
Lady in the Dark
One Touch of Venus
Street Scene
Down in the Valley
Lost in the Stars

DR TCB, Knickerbocker Holiday was the first musical I ever saw.  It was a junior high school production, and I was twelve or thirteen.

I had a long dream last night.  I was in Oxford, Ohio, and I was staying in a house (dormitory?) with a lot of university students, and I befriended a young man and woman living there who were theatre students.  The next day we were all dispersing.  The young man was off to Europe (Greece? Sicily?) for the summer and the young lady was either going home or to some summer theatre work.  There was a big theatre showcase that night and at the party after the show, I was trying to track them down to get their home addresses to keep in touch.  In the cast and party were my old friends Karla Burns and Chris Weikel.

CD ordered. To my knowledge I've never heard this Bagley album, and to say I'm especially looking forward to this one is an understatement.

DR Elmore, of course, is light years ahead of me. Many of these, I'd only be familiar with certain songs. I see this list as a homework assignment!  :)

I think the only shows I omitted were The Eternal Road and Johnny Johnson.  I like several of the songs and music in each and I have seen both works staged, but I can't warm up to either.

Can any of us even imagine a junior high or high school doing anything like Weill these days? I can't, though I'd like to be proven wrong.

So, this afternoon I load up the car with keyboard & amp, etc., and head up to the Hello, Dolly! place.

The orchestra plays in a room behind the stage and gets miked into the house. Since I only switch between piano and celeste in this show, I'm taking the lighter, simpler keyboard in the hope that it will sound okay over the system. If not, I'll have to swap for the heavier one, but I'll really hate schlepping that thing up there just for that. For my taste it'll mainly depend on the piano sound. I actually prefer the celeste on the cheaper one.
