DRBEN - re: I COULD GO ON SINGING - I have had the VHS for quite awhile, and I was hoping the DVD would be an improvement on the sound.  No such luck.  It's TERRIBLE!  There is one line that Dirk Bogarde says that I have never understood - but I never thought of turning on the subtitles....maybe I will read it!  Judy does such a fine job - and I think she looks and sounds great.  I like the songs - and since Dirk is one of my favorites it's fun to see them together.

Just Sunday I won the bid on a 4-CD set of Judy in a blue box with a diamond tear.....does anyone else have this?  It has a video with it.  Paid much BELOW what the Amazon and other internet sites are listing it as, so I hope it's worth it.

Hi all.  We had a very nice day at work today.  A lot of laughter which is just the tonic I needed.

I gave up on Wi-Fi.  Clearly it is one of “Great ideas in theory but the reality is that it doesn’t work” technologies.  I won’t waste any more time/energy on it. I am only angry that they can sell that junk knowing that it doesn’t work and that the person has to be a rocket scientist to even try it.

I’m sorry to hear about all of the rain you guys are still having in California.  The pictures we are seeing are just horrible.  That poor little girl who was killed sitting at her computer—in her own room--by that boulder.  Many good vibes and prayers to those who need them.

We had it pretty bad with the hurricanes but this is at least equal to that.

It’s been years since I’ve been to Disney or any theme park for that matter.  I am trying to talk my Mom into going to Sea World when I get back from NY.  Now that we have Bonnie, there is no reason we can’t go to Orlando for a nice day trip.

I like roller coasters but have notice that I can’t ride as many of them one right after the other as I used to.  Tower of Terror was fun but not as much as the first time when you didn’t really know what was going to happen.

When I went to the Empire State Building, I did the NY ride that was really just a movie and found myself closing my eyes a couple of times—not that I was scared but it was making me rather ill.  Of course, as I have said before, I wasn’t feeling well to start with so that may have been a factor.

I’m looking forward to the annual Ren Fest that is coming up soon.  It’s held almost every weekend in March and part of April so I will be able to go like always.  Does anyone here like the hammered dulcimer?  I always make it a point to listen to several of the musicians.  There is one group called “Empty Hats” that are quite good and I look forward to hearing them every year.

DR Ann, this must be the week for weird dreams.  I dreamed that my Dad stopped by for pizza.  Deep dish pizza and my Mom was fighting with him because she wanted thin crust.  I remember saying something like, “I’ll order BOTH kinds.  Dad doesn’t get to stop by that often. “

Last night I dreamed about getting on a airplane to California.  I was sobbing because I didn’t want to go.  (Sorry to you people in California).  I don’t remember it all but at some point I went into the cabin where the pilot was and looked at way the plane was made.  It looked like plaster of paris and it had HOLES in it!  I remember thinking, “How can this thing fly with those holes?”

Dreams are wild.  I still wish someone would invent a video recorder for them.   :)

I also loved a ride that would show up when ever one of the traveling carnivals came around (and which is now one of the Vixter's favorites as well) it would be advertised under different names, but basically  would be the same ride,  you would stand against a padded wall in a giant wheel and it would spin veru fast so that the centrifigual force would plaster you against the wall and then it would spin sidewides and upside down, ...

I don't think I have been on that.  At first I thought you meant the ride where the floor drops out from under you.  I love that ride except for one problem, I slide down the wall.  The last time I was on that was at Hershey Park and I was wearing a skirt.  As I went down the skirt went up.  The ride stopped just before I was about to be very embarrassed.

Sliding down the wall was terrifying as a child.  As an adult it was only annoying.  I found it interesting Bryan stayed up with everyone else but Craig was sliding down with me.  I wonder if he would have that problem today since he is much bigger now than he was at ten.

I guess I don't have a favorite ride. The merry-go-round is about as far as I usually go! LOL!

Tom Wopat's new CD (Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen) comes out today. I am going to buy it! I love his voice (among other things).

Michael Barnum you are such a fibber.  You wouldn't care if Tom Wopat was a mute.  You are only buying the CD so you can stare at his picture on the cover.

Watching The Motorcycle Diaries, which I'm finding both tough and slow going.  It's also two hours and seven minutes long.

I just received a message from Danise saying she is having internet problems and was cut off before she could read yesterdays posts.

Hopefully she will return tomorrow.

Space Mountain is my all time favorite ride.

I think roller coasters are great (except for the one at Pacific Ocean Park I would have fallen out of if Keith hadn’t pulled me back in and held on to me.) are great.  I even like the ones that go upside down.

The Carousel is another favorite, especially the one at Santa Monica Pier.  My dream is to own an original carousel horse.

I liked just about anything that spins.

JRand-I loved the Teacups at Disneyland.

Pirates of the Caribbean and the Matterhorn are other Disneyland favorites.

Tower of Doom is great fun too but I thought it was called something else.

Charles I agree with you about Ferris Wheels, except for a different reason-heights bother me, especially when I’m rocking.

My dream was to go on a romantic ride on the Ferris Wheel at Pacific Ocean Park.  The entire time in line I kept telling Keith “I hope we stop at the top and can kiss, just like in the movies”.  Well stop we did, kiss we did not do.  I sat there clinging to Keith in terror.  ;D

Years later at the park in Niagara Falls I was going to brave the Ferris Wheel again to make Bryan and Craig happy.  Keith said no way and took them for me.  LOL

Jane, Heights bother me as well and rocking with only a simple bar between me and plummeting doom is not my idea of a good time.  I remember going on them when I was young but no more.

I'm back from a three-hour visit with DR Rodzinski, who now is the happy owner of the Classic Images DRMBarnum sent me.  We met at Starbucks, 81st and Broadway, and the time flew by.  I thought he'd grab the magazine and run, but he stayed for a very enjoyable visit, during which we tweaked the tails of the cosmos and solved the riddles of the human condition.  I had a decaf caffe latte and he drank some very rich chocolate concoction.  DRRodzinski is one smart cookie, as his posts already show, and I look forward to our next bit of socializing.

I just heard, too, that Trude Rittman died today around noon.  She was a beautiful lady I adored for both her charm and enormous talent:  Trude was the unsung heroine of a great many musicals, from dance music to songs in Mary Martin's version of PETER PAN.  Her dance music for CAROUSEL, ALLEGRO, BRIGADOON, and a ton of other shows were brilliant examples of taking another's tune and turning it into rhapsodies for orchestra and dancer.  Her choral arrangements for THE SOUND OF MUSIC are absolutely right.

I don't know when she came to America, but I know she was a Cologne Conservatory student of Walter Braunfels, a late romantic composer banned by the Nazis, and her musical gifts were enormous.  While my admiration for her is boundless, I would say that my two favorite pieces of her arranging work are the Hornpipe in CAROUSEL, where she makes magic out of "Blow high, Blow Low" and the "when I worked in the mill" music, and the gorgeous music for the "Come to Me, Bend to Me" ballet in BRIGADOON.
