Ideally, I would have a similar-aged kitty here for Leonard to play with so he would leave Rex alone. But three cats is too many for my house again.

I have Neve only.  I don't think that she would like another cat in the house.  The next time, I think I'll get a couple at the same time.

And now, we're at the last scene.  We had a good show with a good audience.

I'm glad you understand, Elmore. Also, dogs are a lot more work than cats.

The gods are cruel.  Little 33 lb Scooter, whom I had thought about adopting from the New York ACC has been put on their kill list for Tuesday afternoon.  I may have to adopt him to save his life.

What I hope is that someone will rescue him tomorrow, but if he's not rescued before noon on Tuesday, I will apply for him, just to save him.

After the show, I'm off to my parents' house.

Be back later!

I'm really happy that, with all the tsuris I adopted, Thatch.  He and annabelle are great together.

I learned the truth at seventeen: My movie tastes have completely changed after I graduate high school.  I'm doing High Spirits, the final show at Bluth Brothers (and listed in the Times), but I'm no longer running to see the big 70mm movies.  I don't go to Cleopatra, 55 Days at Peking, or The Agony and the Ecstasy.  Instead I'm all over What's New, Pussycat, The Collector, and small films.  In September I start LACC, but sill manage to go to San Bernardino to see Tammy Grimes in Molly Brown in the round.  Virginia Woolf comes back to the old Ritz Theater, now the Lindy Opera House, starring Vicky Cummings and Kendall Clark - Mr. Clark was the matinee George when I first saw the show at the Biltmore, which, BTW, has closed and is about to be torn down.  Virginia Woolf also plays a few small theaters.  And Yum Yum Tree, which closed at the Ivar after over two and a half years, suddenly returns to the Legrand, but not the same production so I don't see it there.  But in October it reopens at the Coronet, with Del Close, James Best, and Brigit Hanley - of course I go, but it no longer seems quite as funny as before.  And The Loved One and Repulsion are about to open and I go to both and love both.

Oh, and an off-B'way musical comes to the Las Palmas and I go and love that - The Amorous Flea starring Lew Parker and a young actor who I'll later become friends with - Philip Proctor.

On 12/8 I turn eighteen.  And two days later I have a new obsession: A Patch of Blue.  I buy the soundtrack after seeing it and play it every night at the apartment I'm in, which is horrible.  Disgustingly horrible.  I'll soon be out of there.  My total time there is probably four weeks but a long four weeks.

I'm cast in Peter Pan at Melodyland as an Indian and other bits.  Jane Powell is to play Peter but won't rehearse until just a few days before the 12/19 opening.  I survive one rehearsal and it's painfully obvious I will not be able to get there as whoever's car I borrowed to get there for the one rehearsal will not be obliging me again.  It's sad, but there's nothing to do about it.

More and more tentpole films are opening on Friday - it's becoming - a trend.  And the Encore on Melrose has become what in essence would later be called a revival house.

Jane Powell IS Peter Pan.

Great tagline that would have been.

DR Elmore, have you talked to Annabelle and Thatch about getting a dog? I fear that Thatch would be quite frightened and Annabelle most indignant.

New Year's Eve - I'm at some party in Beverly Hills.  I have no way back to my apartment, which is in Silver Lake somewhere, I think.  Nor do I want to go back.  I leave the party around two and walk around Beverly Hills for hours - this is a Saturday.  When stores open I go in and look around and kill time until two when I go see The Slender Thread at the Stanley Warner Beverly Hills.  The credits come on then the first scene and I immediately fall asleep for the duration of the film.  I go home to the Beverlywood house and sleep in my own bed that night.

Here’s a Sunday question for the class:

What type of alarm clock or other device do you use?

Mine is an older, probably 1980s-vintage clock radio, a type I’ve always been comfortable with except for one feature, and that’s the fact that the time setting buttons are completely unguarded; i.e., you (or, let’s say, a cat) can accidentally change the current time setting at any time. If the design of these had included something else you had to hold down to change the time, like when you set the alarm, it would be perfect.

Most days I don’t have to set any alarm. (The cats come with an automatic person getter upper that is pretty much undefeatable.) But when I do, it’s the clock radio set to NPR, backed up by the iPhone set to five minutes later.

for decades I had an AM/FM clock radio. These days I have a little battery-operated Seiko alarm clock. I like it because it's easy to read in the dark and it won't fail if the power's out. I seldom use the alarm, but there is the occasional early doctor or dentist appointment. (Such indignity!)

A very nice review from DR ChasSmith.

We have been to the Magic Castle, once in the evening with friends and once on a Sunday afternoon with the boys.  They were very different experiences.

I do hate those early morning appointments.  Having one car between us I often try to get them so I can return early.
