I haven't bumped my head on a kitchen cabinet in years, but I well remember doing it and what it feels like.

The cabinet doors in my kitchen here are too low, but if you were bent over doing something at the counter and stood up straight fast without checking, I suppose it could still happen on a door or on the cabinet itself. But I think at some point I simply decided it wasn't ever going to happen again, and so far, so good.

My first times doing this were in Franklin Park Apartments in Hollywood. I absolutely remember that. And it happened a few times elsewhere over the years.

Oh--I've done it with an open car door (my own car), if I'm standing outside of the car retrieving something from inside. Stand up too fast, and you get a surprise as to where the frame of the door was. So I guess I've transferred my hard knocking head mishaps in the kitchen to the car. Somehow I think the kitchen ones always hurt more.

As to the TOD, slicing fingers on something in the kitchen is at the top of the list. Whether it's on some kind of cutting/slicing tool or on a broken glass in the sink, this is something not to be taken lightly. A couple of times I've considered myself lucky to have stopped the bleeding and healed without having to seek medical help. Be careful, everyone.

Next on the list is stubbing toes. Third would be whacking a knee or shin. These are navigational issues. It's simply amazing how distracted we can be sometimes in just walking from point A to point B in our own abodes.

The shins are usually knocked as I'm walking around my bed frame. It's a wooden platform bed.

The knees, I'm not sure, and that's less common than other stuff.

But the toes? Oh my god, the toes. How many times over the years? And there is nothing like that moment when you've just done it and sometimes you also hear a crack, and you wait that second or two for the pain to arrive, as your fury builds...

T.O.D.

About 3 weeks ago, I was helping my wife bring in the groceries, and I smashed the hatchback of her car down on the bridge of my nose.

No break.  Lots of blood.  No stitches.

It's okay now, but there will probably always be a little mark  there.

Well, I'm going to take the MAST test...just because.  I'm sure that it can't take as long as the class, so I'm going to go for it.  I found out that if I don't get the 80% or more on the first try, I can take it again.  Whew!  I'll find out how well I did as soon as I'm finished with it, which is a good thing.  So, I'll say good night, Tom and jan.

Have a good day, all!

Well, that was easy!  The on-line class took a little over 3 hours and had six sections.  Each section had a 10-question quiz and on three of them, I got 100%, and on the other three, I got 90%!  And then on the actual final test which only took about 10 minutes, I got a 90%!  You just need to get 80%, so I'm now legal to pour drinks in the state of Washington!

Congratulations!

Not that I know anything about actually mixing drinks...that's a ballgame of a different color. ;) But certainly as far as the Washington Center for the Performing Arts is concerned, I can now again be a barback or serve beer and wine.

Enjoy your "official" view  from behind the bar.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Slow start this morning after last night's AAUW meeting and watching basketball until almost midnight.  While, like DR JRand, I would have like to see different teams (Auburn and Michigan State), last night's game was fun to watch.

Stupid was using my left wrist, instead of my voice, to stop two large dogs from crashing into me resulting in a broken wrist.

Stupid, though I was protecting my son, was dropping my right hand in front of a dog fight and ending up in the hospital on heavy duty antibiotics as not to lose said hand after a dog bit it.

I have had two mild concussions.  The second one was when I did a backwards somersault off of a twin bed, forgetting that we had just moved the other bed across the room.  I was 16 at the time.  When my father explained I had a concussion I immediately had an aha moment realizing that time I banged my head when I was ten also resulted in a concussion.

Actually the roll off of the twin bed was hysterical even if I was in pain.

Oh, I just remembered the time in my early twenties when I slammed my head between the car door and the top of the car, where the window stops.  I no longer pull the car door hard while climbing into the car, especially in an unfamiliar car.

Keith went to comfort me and got his watch caught into my long hair.  By the time we untangled we were both laughing pretty hard.  The temple on my right side is still sensitive to this day.
