I am watching Ice Skating on ESPN2.

They have just announced the launch of a new ESPN service called ESPNU - concentrating on college sports.

Whew and no one ever does a musical or play on TV anymore!

AMERICAN IDOL: The men had a pretty good night tonight. Well, at least the nerves seemed to be gone with most of them. There are still three of four of the guys who have their high pitched boy band voices that I just don't turn on to.

I also felt there was too much humming along with the music tonight and not enough full out singing. One performer spent the first HALF of his song humming and saying "yeah-yeah" but not doing any real singing. Of course, the judges thought he was wonderful.

I thought Anthony and Bo blew everyone else out of the water tonight. I disliked David and Constantine the most tonight.

Trying to decide on a DVD for tomorrow. It could be MY SISTER EILEEN, or it could be one of the Poirot made-for-BBC movies - perhaps SAD CYPRESS, one of my favorite Agatha Christies. But I'm in the mood for a film as opposed to some TV episodes.

We didn't get any snow, and the rain stopped hours ago. Tomorrow is just supposed to be cold and windy. Ah, winter, your magic spell is everywhere (a semi-Gloria Swanson reference).

Der Brucer and I just saw an ad on television, for Cathy Rigby in what is billed as her "final tour" as Peter Pan.

It's reassuring that she's going to call it quits with the role before she has to play it while propped up with a cane.

Good Evening!

Packed for Greensboro this weekend - Check!

More "stuff" organized and more "stuff" shredded - Check!  *Three garbage bags full of shreds!!!

Packed for NYC, Memphis and Indy - Almost Check!

I just realized there is only so much I can do right now.  I should be back here by Noon on Sunday, and that will give me a couple more hours to get things in order - and do a load of laundry or two - before driving up to Fairfax Sunday night.  -And then I'm on the 7:30am train Monday morning to NYC!  Wheeeeeee!

However, I have to say I showed quite a bit of restraint when I packed the stuff I did pack already.  I usually overpack.  And I mean OVERPACK!  -To the point where I bring "emergency" pieces of clothing that I end up not wearing the whole time.  There were at least four shirts and two pairs of pants I never wore the whole time I was in LA last summer - and I was there for almost three months!  As long as I have access to a laundromat every 10 days or so, I should be fine.

I'm still planning on heading up to Fairfax tomorrow, weather permitting.  So far, it still looks good, but I'll be checking the reports in the morning on the TV and on the net.

DR ozderek - Those POLYCHOCS sound amazing!  I love lychees.

One of my favorite Filipino desserts is dish filled with lychees and cubes of almond-flavored gelatin.  My mom would make this all the time when I was growing up.  The almond gelatin is of Japanese and/or Chinese origin.  The Japanese call it Do-Fu, I believe.  Maybe DR Hisaka can confirm or correct me.  In any case, the combination works surprisingly well.

Oh, and fresh lychees are so amazing when you can find them.

DR Danise - I've been to NYC in March many times.  I think one coat should be enough.  Unless you plan on spending a lot of time outside walking around, then I don't think you'll need to worry about bundling up that much.

However, I would advise bringing some sort of coat or jacket that is a good "shell".  Usually it's the wind that will get to you rather than the cold temps.

...Of course, I was born in Boston, and I'm still hoping for a good snowfall this winter - three feet minimum!

Twelve hours later, it is 90,713

How many copies do you think that translates to? And BLESS PETER FILICHIA!!!

As for tonight's "American Idol"...

I really would like to hear more of the mix that is heard in the studio.

I thought there was one dead-on song choice, and one totally wrong song choice tonight.  The rest were good, but the singers didn't really do anything special with their renditions of them.

And the back-up singers really got a workout tonight too.  -And actually sounded a little out of tune in a few places to my ears.

We shall discuss more tomorrow.

Was there some misunderstanding about the cookies being the food of the day on Saturday?

Another example of the Fall of Western Civilization.  Today I was listening to a mellifluous-voiced announcer doing a commercial for the Mexican silver industry, saying it gives employment to craftsmen, designers, and "ar-tish-ans". I'm sure he meant artisans.

I mean this was going out over the airwaves for public consumption.  Is there no quality control?  Don't the people paying for the ad even bother to check it?

PennyO, the same thing happened when Fichia did Writer's Block.  We went from being number 554,000 to number 29,000.  It's happened about five times since, for reasons I'm not sure of.

What IS this?  No posts, not ONE post in forty minutes.  This is a way to send out February?  You people are upsetting February, and that's just not very nice, is it?  Get off your complacent butt cheeks and get some discourse or datcourse going before I bitch-slap everyone from here to eternity and hell and back.

Good Evening!  Good Morning!

Laundry is done, and I managed to organize things a bit more in my bedroom.  Hopefully, all this prep work will make packing everything up much easier once I'm back from Indianapolis.  I'll have three full weeks to get things packeds up and moved into storage and/or up to NYC and/or...

While waiting for some laundry to finish drying, I decided to go ahead and burn a couple of CDs onto my harddrive.  It was my first time using the iTunes feature.  Very cool.  I didn't realize just how compact the format was for the music files.  So, one of the things I'll be doing over the next couple of day - even while I'm in Greensboro - is burning even more CDs to my harddrive.  This way I can travel with part of my CD library - and without the bulk of the actual CDs.

Oh...

Two bits of wisdom I came across while cleaning up my files...

The following was in ad for a local church:

"If you've got some time on your hands,
Why not spend some of it on your knees."

Hmmm....

And inscribed onto one of those small decorator pillows:

"Go Braless -
It will pull the wrinkles from your face."
