Another suggestion for the Topic of the Day:  The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.  My mom loves this movie.  And Nick Redman, BK's very close and personal friend, did the commentary track on the DVD ("excellent commentary," according to one reviewer on amazon.com)!

Yes, the phone has every feature known to man.  In fact, it has a speaking caller ID - it actually speaks the name of the caller.  If you don't like that function you can shut it off.

One reviewer wrote this about "The Inn of the Sixth Happiness" :

Please note that although 'Inn of the Sixth Happiness' is a well-produced, heartwarming movie starring the great actress Ingrid Bergman it was a thorn in the side of Gladys Aylward. She was deeply embarrassed by the movie because it was so full of inaccuracies. Hollywood also took great liberties with her infatuation with the Chinese Colonel Linnan, even changing him into an Eurasian. But Gladys, the most chaste of women, was horrified to learn the movie had portrayed her in 'love scenes'. She suffered greatly over what she considered her soiled reputation.

I don't know if that was true, but it's always interesting to read the reviews and see how much people like or hate something and why.  I usually read a couple of reviews on the first screen, then click the "See all customer reviews..." button.  From there, I choose to show them by "Lowest Rated First" just to get a balanced view of something.  Anyone else do this? ::)

Speaking of crepuscular periods, could we BE any closer, politically, to entering a dark age?

Thankfully, lots of the country have not given up on LOST. Wednesday's show was one of its highest rated ever.

BAMBI did look wonderful, and it's such a touching and memorable film, certainly one of the best ever done. Loved the new Enhanced Sound Mix - they got some really deep bass on it, amazing for a soundtrack that old.

Didn't have any time to watch any extras. I'll get to some of them tomorrow.

The new LAW & ORDER show tonght: TRIAL BY JURY was interesting. I enjoyed seeing the behind-the-scenes machinations on BOTH sides. The prosecution isn't portrayed as lily white, the defense side gave us information that the prosecution wasn't priby to, we got to see grand jury questioning and jury room deliberations. Actually, though several reviewers had said it was the same old LAW & ORDER with a new name, I didn't find it so at all.

Jerry Orbach did look frail. His clothes seemed to hang on him, and the old zip was a trifle forced.

Good Evening!

Had dinner - I ventured up the road a bit since I needed to buy a new pair of jeans at Old Navy.  I ended up buying two pairs since they were offering $5.00 off each pair of jeans if you bought two or more pairs, so I bought two pairs.  Where was I?  Oh, I was in the mood for Mexican food, so I asked the cashier if their was a good Mexican restaurant in the area.  She suggested some place called La Fiesta.  And then two of her co-workers chimed in with, "Oh, yeah...That place is really good!"  So, I headed up the street, and gave it try and it was very good.  I got their tamale/enchilada combo.  Very tasty!  There Mexican food was true Mexican and not Tex-Mex, but there were a bunch of Tex-Mex items available too.  And the chips and salsa were above par too.  I walked out with a very happy stomach.

Once back at the hotel, I popped into the Dance callbacks for a little bit just to check in on things.  Then I had two companies to play callbacks for tonight - Dave Clemmons Casting and Busch Gardens Tampa.

-Then I stopped at the "Dessertery" in the hotel lobby and treated myself to a surprisingly good chocolate eclair.

:)

All in all, a pretty good day of auditions.  The usual mix of the mediocre, good and very good talent.  And even though we were on a tight schedule today, it felt like the day was paced very well and kind of went by fast for me.  *Of course, we'll see how I feel on Saturday afternoon as I'm playing for number 775-850!  ;)

Bruce - OUCH!  On the finger!  I hate when that happens!

As for your Texas question - The closest MAJOR airports to the Gulf Coast of Texas are the ones in Houston - Bush and Hobby.  Or is it Intercontinental and Hobbby?  -I forget which one got renamed.  Bush is a Continental hub, and the other one is a hub for some other airlines, so there's bound to be a bunch of cities two hours from Houston at least.  *San Padre Island is a BIG spring break destination.  Most college kids fly into Houston and then take one of the various charter bus services from there.

Great news about the new Craig Carnelia song!

CREPUSCULAR!

*Which, for some strange reason, I tend to read as CREPSUCULAR when I come across the word.

DR Michael Shayne - ...Well, if you try to book a hotel room in NYC at this time of the year just two weeks before your arrival...  Spring Break!  And TONS of conventions in town too this month.

However...  Be sure to check some of the hotels a few Avenues over from Times Square - the ones on 9th and 10th.  You'd be surprised at some of their "regular" rates.  I still recommend the Skyline at 50th and 10th.  Unfortunately, ever since they finished the remodeling a few years ago, it's no longer that much of a secret, but their rates are still very good - and the rooms are big too.

DR SWW and DerB - Thanks for sharing the puppy stories, and so sorry to hear that one of them had died.  As other DRs have already mentioned, it's good to know that he spent his final days in the care of people whole truly cared for them.

As for religious movies...

Well, since I spent a good part of my elementary and high school years in private Catholic schools, I saw plenty of religious films.  Consequently, I've kind of blocked a bunch of them from my brain, and/or I can't keep track of which movie starred whom and what it's title was/is.

However, I do remember "A Man For All Seasons".  I went to St. Thomas More Elementary.  We watched that movie at least twice a year in Grades 6-8.  Of course, it wasn't until I was in high school that I realized just how "deep" that movie was - all the social, religious AND historical background.

We had retreats in high school, and we always watched one of the many Jesus films.

...And there was The Ten Commandments - The New Spectacle Musical" last summer at the Kodak Theater starring Val Kilmer...  But that was truly another totally different animal.

I was able to catch the last 45 minute of the new LAW & ORDER too tonight...  Very interesting.

Of course, I spent a good deal of time trying to see if I recognized anyone doing the dance combination in the background.  And what theatre it was filmed in.

Well, another 275 people tomorrow...  And I really need to give my eyes a break.  They managed to rig up some theatrical lighting to light up the "stage" area where the audtionees audition.  And after spending nearly eight hours in the spill of those lights...

I shall catch up in the morning...

Goodnight.

Good evening all
It doesn't feel like it's after 9...it seems much earlier...
I left work with an absolutely splitting headache, got some grocceries, came home and put them away, did the dishes, then took a double dose of Ibuprofen and snoozed on the couch for an hour.  My headache has subsided, but I still don't feel particularly well.

As far as the TOTD...Prince of Eqypt is one of my favorites...can't say I've really seen very many religious movies, though.
