Then Peyton, her mom, and I went to Genghis Cohen and had a dining adventure.  Peyton has never actually been in a Chinese restaurant before - only Panda Express.  So, this was a huge thing.  She liked the cashew chicken, loved the garlic chicken, ate most of the sole in ginger sauce, and couldn't eat the orange chicken because of her gluten problem.  Mom and I took care of the latter but good.  I don't think I've actually ordered the cashew chicken before - it has corn in it, and somehow it kind of makes the dish.  I think heretofore it's always been the Kung Pao chicken, but Peyton can't do spicy food.

We had tons of fun.  I'm thinking of creating a web series to star Peyton for next year.  Kind of a spin-off kind of Welcome to My World thing, but with a normal-sized cast of characters and occasional musical numbers.

I am with Peyton on spicy food.

In Chinatown Montreal we had a tofu dish that reminded us of Ah Fong's sweet & sour chicken (I can't recall what the official name)  It was delicious.

If all goes well Bryan & Kate just might arrive around 11:00 instead of midnight.  We only have them here until after brunch but will take what we can get :)

Same here for spicy food, but the other dishes sound great.

Was that four full dishes for three people?  In Brooklyn,1970s,  I think it was the law tin Brighton nd Coney Island that three or four people shared two dishes.

But we did get egg rolls  at Jade Pagoda, which have never been equalled in reliable taste in my experience.

I actually think they look like they greatly increased the cabbage-to--tasty-stuff in it, maybe because the inside of egg rolls since the 1980s had them thinking people want to eat healthier.  But if that were the goal, would they order the egg roll?

I recall the egg rolls were great in the era when "With Six You Get EggRoll" came out.

These days, people seeing that title probably wonder why egg roll was ever considered a treat, as opposed to a shredded-veggie burrito.

Saturday night in Austin.

Quiet day today.

Did some writing, then we watched a couple of movies:  CAPTAIN PHILLIPS w/ Tom Hanks, then THE BODYGUARD with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.

Both hold up quite well.

The main air conditioner was broken and it was 99 degrees outside at 7 p.m. At the table it was hot, too.

But on the dance floor with the fans aimed there, it was actually fairly pleasant.

It's a companion film to last night's Documenteur, which wasn't a documentary.

I made it to my friend's funeral. I only now just realized that there were no music used in the service. There was music beforehand, but no hymns or anything like that.

this afternoon I listened to The Cher Show. Wow, what a mess. The orchestrations are boring. The singing is largely lackluster or, in the case of Stephanie Block, overly imitative. Even Emily Skinner is lackluster.

Has anybody else heard it? I wish I had a CD of Cher's Greatest Hits, which I had on vinyl back in the day. It was much better listening than this.

The show had a great cast, including Donna Murphy, Norbert Leo Butz, Bryce Pinkham, Patina Miller and more.

Both seasons were available on DVD at the Dollar Tree today, so I picked them up.
