I really like this benefit. The first year I had it I kind of scoffed at it, thinking I didn't need it,  and didn't use it. The year I had eye surgery the benefit had been discontinued--and, man, I could have used it! So many trips back and forth to UCLA! I was very glad when it was reinstated. I use it a lot now. Yesterday I wasn't allowed to drive myself home and when I see the ophthalmologist they usually want to dilate me. I have no desire to drive while dilated. I hope to keep the benefit.

TOD:
My favorite breakfast used to be eggs (usually poached), potatoes (hash browns or cottage fries), and toast. Then I learned I'm allergic to eggs. I can eat eggs or pancakes now and then, as long as it's not often. :(

Good news from DR jan. I'm sure you're very relieved. Vibes you're able to control it easily.

I am having a recovery day. Not up to driving yet, or even being on my feet much. I'm not allowed to shower until tomorrow, which does put a dent into socializing, doesn't it? Seriously, I can really use a few days of R&R. So much work and anxiety goes into just preparing for these procedures!

Relax and take a few extra days to heal & get stronger.

Last night Jane asked how I got home yesterday.

One of the staff called the office that schedules rides as part of my insurance benefits. She called at 4:50, but they could only schedule rides for the next ten minutes. As if life stops at 5pm! She was able to obtain an after-hours phone number, though, which I was able to use successfully, ie, the phone was answered and by a knowledgable person. They called Lyft and a driver was in front of the building before I could even get downstairs. One of the nurses escorted me to the car.

Lyft.  I thought maybe there was a special service that escorted people home from the hospital.  I gather the Lyft driver didn't assist you to your door.

Just curious, since you didn't order or pay for the Lyft ride did you still receive a notice to add a tip?

It's a great benefit.  I have driven home after having my eyes dilated but not in L.A. traffic.

I'm back from lunch, but I didn't have an omelet.  I had Denny's new Southwest Chorizo Burger.  It was pretty good...a little dry and I think it sat around waiting as the other items in our group were being prepared so that they could all be served at the same time, but I think if it was fresh off the grill, it'd be very good. :)

I've never really had any trouble driving after having my eyes dilated.  I wear my sunglasses that just go on over my prescription glasses, but it's never really been any trouble...so far.  Who knows what'll happen as I get older. ::)

On a bright sunny day it can be a bit more difficult driving home.  On those days I combine the sunglasses they give me with my own sunglasses.  The last time my eyes were dilated it was a lovely overcast day.

Eggs:
soft boiled
hard boiled if still warm
scrambled
fried, sunny side up or over easy, very easy (something I only get when I am out)
egg scramble in restaurants
egg salad
deviled eggs
eggs in tuna salad

of course, eggs in sweets

They use several different ride firms and usually ask if you have a preference. I've had good luck with Lyft and continue to use it.

No, there's no opportunity to tip online that I'm aware of. Knowing that, I tip in cash.

Actually, getting home from the hospital can be a problem. If you call 911 you may not think quickly enough to grab money or a credit card--or may not be able to. I don't know what happens when you need to get home and no funds to do so. You're not always able to reach a friend or family member.

As for assistance from Lyft, no, there is none. I think there's a special ambulance service for those times when you have to be escorted to your door and not just the curb, but I've never used it.

DR Jeanne have you given a spare key to a friend in case of an emergency?  I suppose though you would have to be able to reach them in an emergency.

I know someone else who is able to drive while dilated; it doesn't bother her at all. Most people I've talked to about it have trouble with it.

Yes, especially all plans for seniors. The Medicare Advantage market is very competitive; once one company offers a new benefit the others tend to follow suit.

Back from the warehouse - spent almost three hours there - but found some really good stuff that I needed for next year's book and for perks.  And a few K'land titles I was told we were completely out of that we, in fact, have a lot of.

Oh, and 158%.  Today's goal: 160% - we can DO it - and then to infinity and beyond.

Grammy Jane, thank you for the link, it was very helpful.  I admit after the not Parkinson's, I kinda tuned out and forgot what else the doctor was saying.  She wanted to check if my gait had changes from the last appointment so she had me walk down the hall, turn, and walk back.  Apparently I did quite a turn and got applause from the staff.  So I flung out out my arms, sashayed and said I was studying to be a drag queen.

Yes, a neighbor has my spare key, but he doesn't drive.

At least he could let someone in to collect things you might need if you were unexpectedly detained in a hospital.  Hopefully that will never happen.
