I have just decided to listen to the soundtrack of Kiss Me Kate, the 1990 CBS Special Products release, not the complete Rhino release of a few years later.

Ben! Tell Anthony GOOD LUCK on his audition. Too bad he doesn't have JOSE C SIMBULAN playing for him.

Yesterday's first read-thru was all but perfect. We adjusted about 8 measures of music, and could have performed it last night. Jose is a one in a million accompanist - he doesn't just "follow" - he really accompanies. It is something you're born with or you ain't. A sort of telepathic connection - means we don't really have to rehearse. Another run-thru today with the tech director and lighting designer, a run thru tomorrow with the onstage dresser and tech folk - then no more rehearsing until the Tuesday night tech and Wednesday afternoon Dress - and open on Wed. night. Is life really this easy???

Just catching up on yesterday's posts... Joey, the loss of my grandmother was the single most painful event of my life - almost 18 years ago by now. And as time has passed, the feeling of "loss" has subsided - and the abundance of wonderful memories has taken its place. Funny, happy, joyous moments with her come unbidden at the unlikliest times - and I find myself smiling, laughing, humming along. Death is an illusion, they live forever in our hearts.

Up earlier than usual this morning because a friend and I are going out for Krispy Kreme doughnuts this morning. I'm salivating at the very thought.

DR Ben mentioning DAMN YANKEES reminded me that I don't have the OCR of that show on CD. I have the rerival with Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber but not the original. That's something I definitely need to look into finding.

My Christmas Roses in my tiny garden: I wonder why it’s called Christmas Rose…they not bloom in Christmas time or they don't belong the rose family...

Your Christmas Rose is a member of the buttercup family and in it's native Europen habitat does, in fact, bloom at Christmas time.

This pretty little thing is DEADLY POISON! ( Read Here)

Quote
The entire Christmas rose-plant is toxic. Out of all the organs particularly the rhizome contains ill-defined compounds. The powerful toxins present are not destroyed in drying or storage. Both animals and humans are affected. Hellebores are said to have a burning taste.

On a lighter note, their is a wonderful story about the flower (extracted from Christmas.com:

Quote
The Christmas Rose
A well known English plant, the Christmas rose, is a true Christmas flower. It is sometimes called the Snow or Winter Rose. It blooms in the depths of winter in the mountains of Central Europe. Legend links it with the birth of Christ and a little shepherdess named Madelon.

As Madelon tented her sheep one cold and wintry night, wise men and other shepherds passed by the snow covered field where she was with their gifts for the Christ Child. The wise men carried the rich gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense and the shepherds, fruits, honey and doves. Poor Madelon began to weep at the thought of having nothing, not even a simple flower for the Newborn King. An angel, seeing her tears, brushed away the snow revealing a most beautiful white flower tipped with pink - the Christmas rose.

Also in central and northern Europe it is the custom to break off a branch of a cherry tree at the beginning of the Advent and keep it in water in a warm room; the flowers should burst into bloom at Christmas time.

Good Morning!

-It's been sort of strange.   I realized when I got up this morning at 7:30, that I don't seem to sleep in whenever I'm in New York.  I mean my "normal" wake up time is usually 10:30-ish, but not in NYC.   Hmm...

And the futon was/is very comfortable too.

And on a personal high note - I can "comment" on the notes!

Mr. Preminger’s direction is elegant and very assured (I believe it was his first film)

According to IMDB he had some considerable practice before "Laura":

As for Media Check Friday...

Well, since I'm back in work/show mode, that must mean I don't have anything in my media players.  I did listen to some Mozart and Schubert yesterday with my friends' children, but that's been about it.

I guess with all the auditions I've played over the past couple of days, I am my own media player.

DR Michael Shayne, yes there is a Canadian Idol.  This year's will probably start after American Idol finishes here.  American Idol is very popular here, and Canadian Idol will take the same time slot.  I'm not sure what the ratings are for the Cdn version although I think they are good.  The ctv.ca website probably has some info.

I think so far we've had 2 winners.  Season 2 was 100 times better than Season 1.  The winner of Season 2 (Kalan Porter) seems to be doing okay in Canada.  Although my favorite was the #2.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I ordered LAURA this week and will look forward to seeing it again soon. I have a videotaped copy from FMC that I've watched within the last six months, but I am very enxious to see the DVD version.

Nomination for "Groans per Column Inch"

(From the AP:

Quote
Florida Lawmaker Seeks Toilet Paper Tax By DAVID ROYSE
Associated Press Writer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's Legislature is flush with good ideas. Sen. Al Lawson's involves a 2 cent-per-roll tax on toilet paper to pay for wastewater treatment and help small towns upgrade their sewer systems.
The Democratic lawmaker's pay-as-you-go bill has been the source of many jokes - bathroom humor you might say - but he says the issue is a serious one, especially in some of the fast-growing Panhandle coastal counties in his district.

"They're experiencing a tremendous boom in growth and they're not able to accommodate the growth," Lawson said. "We've got 17 million people in this state and all of them can contribute to protecting our underground water supply."

In a Republican-dominated Legislature that doesn't like new taxes, the idea is likely to pretty quickly end up in the tank.

Senate President Tom Lee, R-Brandon, said he didn't think it would get too far, but didn't rule it out.
"We'll be getting to the bottom of it real soon," Lee said.

The House is skeptical as well.
"We're not wild about tax increases," said House Speaker Allan Bense, R-Panama City. "But we'll certainly let it go through the system."

Peggy is distrought because the pups get all the press.

These are to make her happy:

She has started rough-housing with the puppies, and joining them in chewing up paper. She has also insisted that she get quality bed-time, with pets. Now she even horses around with Fletcher!

The Wall Man.  I think that was a Lon Chaney Jr movie wasn't it?

Possibly...possible.  Of course, The Grave Man was his final role.
