I was right to be nervous about the lab work I had done yesterday.  I repeated the 3 month glucose test and there was no improvement at all.  It was exactly the same as last time.  I should have improved :(

Oh, no!  Now what, Jane?

I don't know.  Have you been able to improve your glucose more than you did at the beginning of your diagnosis?  I practically cut out wine, reduced my chocolate by more than half, switched from russet potatoes to sweet, rarely use my sweet salad dressing, am skipping white rice.  Oh, & barely eat candy that isn't my chocolate.  I shall have to try that chocolate you like.

Jane, I think you need to give it more time. You're doing the right thing by changing your diet, which is the hardest part. The body doesn't like sudden changes; it wants to maintain the status quo.

Are you getting enough chromium? There are quite a few nutrients that can help balance blood sugar and a number of books on a naturopathic approach.

You exercise quite a lot, which is in your favor and should be helping. Give your body time to adjust. That may be all you need.

At first I thought DR GEORGE was putting up shelves in the Chicken Co-Op....until I read the post again.

Those chickens are industrious devils. Not only do they lay the eggs, they pack them and place them on the shelves as well.

Unlike the A1C, the A.O.C. test, I think measures your tendency to prefer socialized medicine.

Everything and everyone says the A1C measures the prior three months, and not fasting shouldn't affect it, so if that's right - something had to be happening blood-wise in April, and then I did end up in the hospital for three days early June.

Sorry to hear that. Vibes for better and more stable health.

Finally back from a six-hour casting session.  The problem being we didn't actually cast for six hours - there were thirty-minute breaks and one hour-long break, during which we ate some food.

We had Tom's for the food - bacon cheeseburger and some onion rings.  Very good.

There was a point mid-April where my A1C had been as high as 7.6, which sounded (to me) like I must have just had High-sugar Hawaiian Punch and ice cream sodas running though my veins, but I hadn't fasted because I hadn't expected to be taking any blood tests.   I started with using Glucerna and all that diabetes stuff.  When they checked my blood the last week of August, I knew I was going to the doctor so i did the full eight-hour fast that I usually do, and this time it was 6.0, still not fabulous, but out of the super-danger range.

I did a 2 hour fast but only because I also checked my glucose which did drop slightly into the normal range. I think it had spiked last time I took it due to fasting too long.   I didn't fast at all for my A1C last time.

Just an observation.  the economical Glucerna mix-it-yourself powder tasted just vile to me, and felt like a ploy to get your rushing back to buying the more pricy bottles the liquid.  :)

;D  Hopefully I never need to take it.

Since A.O.C. (the Congresswoman) has been so in the news, I kept saying A.O.C. two weeks ao when I took the A1C test - but they knew what I meant.

Thank you for your encouragement.  I will have to figure out if I am getting enough chromium.  Yes, everything I read says diet & exercise, especially walking.  And lising weight which I mustn't do.  Oddly weight loss is a sign of pre or diabetes.  I never knew that.  I need to continue improving my diet.

Well, I'm off to the movies.  I'm going to see the documentary on the Broadway show, Come From Away.  I'm sure it'll be good!

Be back later.

I'm home after seeing You Are Here: A Come From Away Story.  It was very good and quite emotional!

It wasn't really about the musical, but the people who were interviewed for the musical.

For me, it's all about cutting out the carbs of (almost) all kinds.  I rarely eat potatoes anymore.  I'm not planning on going full keto, which is high fat and very low carbs, but I'm eating less than I used to.

I read corn chips are bad for your glucose & blue corn chips are ok.  I missed the little detail that said "in moderation".  I may have been eating too many of them, still with all the other changes I have made....

Portion control.  I still have chocolates and candies, but I (try to) get small pieces.  Also, I look at the nutritional information, so I can figure how much of something that I can have.

Continued vibes for DR ELMORE.

A small thing but I bought a sock slider and now I no longer fear changing my socks.

I keep forgetting to mention that I watched FLOWER DRUM SONG last weekend.  I still love that movie, especially James Shigeta!  But I digress.

After watching the movie, I had some questions about the original Broadway production, so I went to the Broadway Data Base.

My very first A1C was 8.6!  Then after being on medication for just 3 months, I got it down to 5.7.  A year later, it was 5.0!  Then last year, it was 5.4...still well within range.  I'm due to be tested again in the next month or so.

Yes, the A1C shows the average of the last 3 months.  Everytime I've had the A1C test, they wanted me to fast, and if I hadn't, I got the impression that it wouldn't be as accurate...or something like that.
