As I was preparing my toast this morning (the bread kind- not the kind with the champagne), the doorbell rang and startled me, so the jelly knife shot out of my hand.  "FLYING SMUCKERS!' I yelled.  I thought this sounded like something W.C. Fields would have said or possibly the name of a singing group of Trapeze artists.

LOL! I love that...a perfect swear phrase, and very W.C. Fields!

But...but...what if Paris gets to play that woman who gets preserved in wax?

I think that would be worth a major giggle!

Good Morning!

As for the Topic of the Day...  At first I was going along the lines of  Marie Curie, Queen Isabella, Eleanor Roosevelt, etc...  But then it hit me!

Nancy Kwan!

Yep.  They filmed it in Australia and it's already in the can.  I'm not sure if "starring" is the correct word to use, but since she's basically the one "brand name" among the "up and coming" cast...  When she was on Letterman a couple of weeks ago, she already had a clip from the movie.  I think.  Whatever...

More on the Mario AMERICAN IDOL fiasco:

He was on Regis & Kelly and said that it "just didn't feel right" (being on Idol). He said it's like when you are in love and you inexplicably fall out of love. He said being on Idol just didn't feel right for him. And he had to go with his intuition.

Could this really be the real reason?  I must say that would seem really dumb to me.

If this is his real reason, then I can totally understand it.  All the hype.  All the promos.  The whole "machine" that is "American Idol".

At this point in the competition, the outcome - his outcome - is totally out of his control.  The producers start picking theme shows.  All those cheesy group numbers and videos start.  The "judges" just keep doing what they've been doing - and not doing.  And it's the public that chooses "your next American Idol".

Yes, in a sense, the public always chooses the next "Idol", but with the way the whole show has progressed over the past three seasons, it's not such a "simple" competition any more.

Making the show may have been the "thrill" he was looking for, the goal he wanted to achieve.  Being voted the next "American Idol" may not mean that much to him now.

Well that had to be one of the most pointless nights of "sleep" ever.  Didn't even come close to drifting off until after 4:30, woke back up at 5:30ish, fell back asleep at 6, woke BACK up at 7:20, fell back asleep from 7:30 to 8, finally woke up at 8:20 and gave up and got in the shower.  Dreams were various and strange and kept winding in and out of each other.  I think I really am catching a cold...my nose is stuffy and my throat is itchy.
But now I must drink copious amounts of cafffine and go be brilliant and wonderful at my interview, causing them to proclaim "she's the one!" and hire me on the spot.  At least, that's how it goes in my fantasy :)

If I could be any woman, it would have to be Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer.  I have been a fan of theirs and hers since I was in high school. ;D I just love her voice!

I don't care why Mario...whoever he is...left American Idol.  How can a nation obssess about something so utterly trivial?

There is no woman I would want to be.  I enjoy being a man.

PUNDIT.  Unfortunately, our culture with its call-in shows and blogs and websites, now makes everyone feel like they are a PUNDIT.  They usually are not.  My favourite show of PUNDITs is The McLaughlin Report.

TUMI.  My business manager about ten years ago gave me a Tumi wallet which is ideal for travelling.  Nice flat size that can also fit in a buttoned shirt pocket, if necessary.  Right number of compartments.  I think I've gone through two of these now and am currently on my third.  Every time one wears out, I buy another.  It's a bit more pricey than the average wallet, but it is just perfect in every way...home or abroad.

I don't care why Mario...whoever he is...left American Idol.  How can a nation obssess about something so utterly trivial?

Gas -- $3/gallon in near future
Debt -- trillions upon trillions and growing
Military -- Largest budget in history of world and military dying and dying and dying in daily attacks

What's wrong with a little trivial obsession when we're faced with insurmountable (out-of-our-hands) issues?

 :D
