DR JRand54, as you know I LOVE coming attractions from the 50s...one of my favorites is for the 1957 film REFORM SCHOOL GIRL...I love when the announcer says "You'll know the worst about every women, when you see REFORM SCHOOL GIRL!"

Just shocking!

DRMATTH the Wild Wild West has been released on CBS Video in Stereo!  So I would imagine if a DVD release was forthcoming - that's where it would come from.   It might get complicated though.  CBS/FOX Video released the I Love Lucy Tapes (as did Columbia House) - but Paramount Viacom have released the I Love Lucy Box Sets.

And the word of the day is: AGGRANDIZE!
This word has always bothered me.  It sounds like it is trying to be both singular and plural at the same time.  Shouldn't it either be AGGRANDI or TUGRANDIZE?   :-\

Lovely pictures of Coco and Cici, DR SWW. :D
How many dogs do you ever take care of  ??? ??? ????
The most we've had in the house is eight, our current pack.

Coco and Cici never got to the house.  I can only imagine what TEN dogs would be like all at once!   :D

Esteemed BK: I have a question for your dear friend (and sponsor of this site) Guy Haines, which I would like you to pass on to him.

Dear Guy: you are known for your collection of hats, particularly baseball caps.  Are these all hats you have collected, or have your friends donated hats and caps to your cause?

It's finally Wednesday, but the week's "work" travails are not at an end thanks to one individual in my office who consistently does things bass-ackwards.

That, plus the windy weather and tons of allergens in the air have me feeling all tattered and torn pone.

I need to go to the pharmacy and get some more allergy meds...this time, I'll ask the pharmacist to aggrandize them.

Good Morning!

Gotta make this quick... I let myself sleep in a little bit, and I must run by the post office before tech at 1:00, so...  -But then we get a nice five hour break after the final dress before the show tonight, so...

In any case...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DD JENNIFER!

DR JRand and Ginny - Thanks for the hotel info.  Like I said it was more or less a toss up for me.  I like Omni Hotels - The Omni Berkshire Place here in Manhattan has to be one of my all time favorite splurge hotel stays (remember when SNL would put all their guests up there), but Residence Inns are nice too - and since I can still earn Marriott points for staying there this time...  Residence Inn it shall be.  -And the pics of the hotel on the Canal look pretty cool too!

And that's all for now...  I'll check back "in between"...

Laters...

From the BE VERY AFRAID Department:

Quote
'Lord of the Rings' coming to the stage
By Press-Telegram wire services

Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - A much-anticipated musical based on "The Lord of the Rings' will have its world premiere in Toronto next year, the show's producers announced Tuesday.

The $22 million show will open in March 2006 at the Princess of Wales Theatre with a largely Canadian cast, producer Kevin Wallace said.

Wallace had hoped to open the show in London in the fall, but no theater large enough to accommodate the technically complex production was available. The musical is now slated to open in London in autumn 2006.

Published 50 years ago, J.R.R. Tolkien's mystical adventure trilogy has been discovered by a new generation through Peter Jackson's Academy Award-winning trio of films, which have grossed more than $3 billion around the world.

The three-hour stage adaptation will feature book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna ("Lautrec," "Maddie') and Matthew Warchus (Tony nominated director of "Art' and "True West'), and music by A.R. Rahman ("Bombay Dreams') and Finnish group Varttina with Christopher Nightingale.

Warchus said the show, which has a cast of 50, would combine words, music, physical theater and spectacle to create a production in which the audience is "actually plunged into the events as they happen."

"We have not attempted to pull the novel towards the standard conventions of musical theater, but rather to expand those conventions so that they will accommodate Tolkien's material," he said.

Looks like folks out there do have some taste. Kirstie Alley's new improv-sitcom FAT ACTRESS on Showtime scored almost 800,000 viewers in its first episode. (That doesn't sound like many viewers, but it's big for a Showtime audience.)

Those numbers fell over 70% with this week's episode to something around 250,000 viewers.

Proof that SHO reaches into the Trailer Parks.

Yes, Matthew Broderick has won two Tony Awards: as featured actor in BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS and as Best Musical Actor for the revival of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING.

And was nominated for THE PRODUCERS.

And remember it was he who saved New York from GODZILLA!

My question for ASK BK day.  What are some of the BEST motion picture coming attractions you have ever seen (even if the actual picture didn't turn out to be so hot)?

My favorite trailer is Alfred Hitchcock's from Psycho - absolutely brilliant.  As is The Birds.  As a kid, I loved all movie trailers, and very few of the actual movies ever lived up to them.

Boy, you're right about the unappetizing transfeer of BELLS ARE RINGING on laserdisc. It and THE OPPOSITE SEX are so pale as to be almost unwatchable. I am SO looking forwaard to receiving my box.

Have to disagree with the slight negative about the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN DVD. I find it glorious, the best of the Ultra-Resolution restorations to my eyes, and that includes the new GONE WITH THE WIND and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD.

Well, if you loved Singin' in the Rain, The Band Wagon should send you reeling.  My comments about SITR are all based on the several Technicolor prints, both 16mm and 35mm, that I've owned.  While the DVD is certainly sharp and pretty-looking, the colors are off.  This can't be disputed if one has seen an IB Tech print of the film.  The DVD leans to the brownish hues and the skin tones are flat.  The sharpness is great and it's been cleaned up beautifully, and the color certainly could have been tweaked in the telecine if someone had had a real IB Tech 35 to look at.
