And while you're answering questions about ratios, what's this "whore ratio" I've heard tell about????

My question of the day is similar to George's.

How does one know about ratios on DVDs? I wouldn't know one ratio from another, or what ration a film was made in originally. Is it something that is noticable? I just haven't got a clue.

Here's a link that gives some explanation of DVD ratios:

http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0077.html

Thanks for the info.  It doesn't answer my question, but it is interesting information.  I didn't know that there were so many different (and specific) ratios. :)

yes, thanks for the links Rodzinski and Ron.

Whew, lots of info...and as soon as I see numbers my mind just goes blank.

So when a DVD is released in the correct ratio, that means that none of the picture is being cut-off, is that correct?

As a young child - this woman played a major role in a VERY FAMOUS motion picture.  It is a timeless flick that is a favorite of many people.

Who is she?  What character did she play?  What is the famous movie she was in?   ;D

Is it Cammie King who played Bonnie Blue Butler in "Gone With the Wind"?

If not King, is it Patty McCormack who played Rhoda in "The Bad Seed"?  (Although I don't consider that film timeless in the same way GWTW is...).

BK:

My friend called and left a message.

He's off to see Alice Ripley tonight (A friend of his) and he said he will be back around 9:30 or so. (EST)

His friends say he is a Brent Barrett type. I would agree

He is featured on the Holmes The Musical Website. He played Moriarity.

http://www.holmesthemusical.com/music.htm

He sings the Excerpts:

Life Is Hard (solo)
One Man (Duet with Holmes)

Question about Brigadoon:

Is the current DVD release the version (Cinemascope) that never made to the theaters? Any alternate version of scenes

And what is the difference between Technicolor and the Antco (?) color?

Is the actress (if not King or McCormack) one of the children from "The Sound of Music"?

Was she Kym Karath who played Gretl?

Please tell us, JRand54.

Is it Karen Dotrice who played Jane Banks in "Mary Poppins"?  (truly a pivotal role in a timeless film).

DR MS - I have wondered about Ansco color myself.  Usually the ads said something like Ansco Color - print by Technicolor.

Doggone, I logged on too late! Well, I  THINK I would have had it with the clue, but not before.

Denise is also on what I would say is the worst episode of the BRADY BUNCH, when Peter discovers a kid who looks just like him, and due to a mix-up he (Peter) ends up running between both girls in different rooms of the Brady manse. At this point, Denise was a late teenager and bookish with big glasses, but kinda cute.

I  haven't seen this posted here yet: Robert Blake acquitted.

The jury hung on one count of Solicitation to Commit Murder, so they could retry him on that count. Haven't heard if they will or not.

Question for Larry Moore:

I was wondering why dance music in musicals are usually rearrangements of songs,

For example: The Wedding Dance in Brigadoon is Go Home With Bonnie Jean

and not originally music compositions?

Also did Gene Kelly really choreograph all the dances in Brigadoon. The deleted Sword Dance looks very much like Agnes De Mille.
