What is the deal with this “live” THE LITTLE MERMAID next week? They are showing the animated movie, but every time they get to a song, they switch over to the live actors doing the song. And it has all these celebrities doing the songs. I think the only one missing is Topo Gigio!

I mean, they have a live Broadway production of the show, so why show the animated version? I just think the whole thing is weird.

My friend Margo had read online that there was some nudity in either the opening scene or the scene when Kim and Chris first sleep together, but there was no real nudity. When Kim and Chris sleep together, because the lighting was so dim, you could barely see Kim take off her shirt with her back to the audience, and Chris pulls down his pants just enough to see a little butt crack. Otherwise, the sound was good. Someone else online criticized the sound, but we could hear and understand everything. And the actors/singers were all really good. Great voices. Good set.

It would've been better to be closer, but David, who bought us the tickets, got them based on what Margo and I said we wanted to pay. Since he got these for us as additional tickets with his season, we're going to ask him if we can upgrade our seats for the other two shows, Frozen and The Book of Mormon. I finally get to see that one!

TOD 1:

Dark Shadows on TV was a game changer for me, because I was just a kid of 7 when we started watching it. It scared me in the best ways, even though, when I view it now, it was more gothic romance than horror. Still, it was quite effective.

Nothing more irritating than canceled flights. Every time this happens to me, I cancel the flight, demand my money back, and get a taxi back to Manhattan. I'd rather rebook than sit for six hours or more with nothing to do.

I may have seen the absolute, rock bottom, nadir production of My Fair Lady at the Ohio Light Opera. It had dreadful choreography by the woman who was then the "choreographer," and I use that term very lightly. She had no sense of invention, one set of prancing steps, and you saw them in every production. They pranced all during the song "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," so when they got to the dance music, it was cut. After "The Rain In Spain," Mrs Pierce and the servants are supposedly awakened by the romping because she asks Higgins if he had heard the racket. In the OLO production, the idiot director brought them on to observe the romping, so the line made no sense. The Act Two curtain fell on Liza and Higgins in a big hot kiss. The atrocities go on and on . . .

I'm watching the beginning of The Old Maid. Interesting take on the Edith Wharton novel.
