We watched MAD LOVE with Peter Lorre last night.

I'd never seen it before.

My wife didn't care for it. It's a bit creaky, but I thought Lorre was quite good.

Kathleen Godwin, who previously did my audios of Carole Lombard and Ida Lupino, is magnificent as the sultry actress who is probably best remembered as "Lilly Munster," but also co-starred in many Westerns, swashbucklers and, of course, Cecil B. De Mille's THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

I watched some of MAD LOVE, too, last night, but got in late so I have yet to see the entire thing, myself. I’m not sure it actually makes a lot of sense, but it does indeed have an iconic Lorre and a nice creepy vibe.

Then I watched the Val Lewton CAT PEOPLE and tried to get through I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, but by this time I was nodding off and eventually gave up trying to stay awake.

A confession: I dearly love the Lewton films and their atmosphere, but I have yet to tune in closely enough to ZOMBIE all the way through. I think I always must be on the verge of sleeping whenever I’ve seen it.

Oh my - I am horrified by the MY FAIR LADY descriptions that DR ELMORE and DR TCB have posted......

And don't get me started on choreographers.....I think Dance Teachers make terrible choreographers because they are all about steps and NOTHING about show and context.....UGH.

YES to this! I played two community productions of COMPANY that were choreographed by such a person. Both included “Tick Tock”, which I loved having the opportunity to play, but I was always embarrassed for all of us throughout the number.

I shall have to take out my Criterion NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and have a go at it.

I, too, haven’t ever really warmed to it, though I dutifully attended the occasional showing at the Nuart or other revival house back in the day, and I think I always enjoyed the earlier scenes. I always had the current “best” home video edition in the house, but I honestly don’t think I ever sat down and watched it straight through. Hmm, maybe tonight I’ll put myself in the hands of Criterion and have a go at it.

George the California fire would be the Kincade fire in Northern California and the largest one at over 76,800 acres. Last I read it was 60% contained.

I don't know how many acres the multiple fires in Southern California add up to. I have mentioned The Getty, the Tick, and the Simi Valley fires.

Now watching Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am. Her voice is just a joy. I've listened to her read several of her novels, which are excellent, but she's also a natural oral storyteller. And her laugh has this warmth in it that draws you in.
