Well, you've read the notes, you think you're gonna like the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - and when they do I think they're gonna like it here.

Friday Media Check...

Well, since I'm in the Big Apple too right now, I can't answer that question (too).

Well, since I'm now "officially" in charge of splitting the check at Angus McIndoe, I guess that means I don't have to pay!

-Yeah, right...

;)

In any case...

Was it DR Ben who made the final reservation?  Or was it DR elmore?

Will we be at a bunch of smaller tables?  Or will we all be at one big table?  The upstairs room?  (Hmm... and with Easter next weekend... but I digress.)

Will I have to bring my pocket calculator with me?

;)

To quote Little Red Riding Hood in Into The Woods - "Excited and scared."

Oh.. And just a warning/request to the DRs coming to Jewish Thighs on Saturday...

Since I did not bring a camera with me this trip, I will most likely ask a DR or two to snap a few pictures of me and Penny at the Clurman... In the theatre... In front of the lobby poster... etc.. -The usual stuff to send home to the folks.

Since I've been here in Washington Heights, I've been watching some episodes of "The Family Guy" (on DVD) with Nick and Graham.  It's sort of our equivalent of Late Night TV since they don't have cable/reception.

Favorite line from last night's episode:

"This is worse than Seussical

Favorite line from tonight's episode:

"You're so far in the closet, you're finding Christmas presents."

DR Jane - On the way to the theatre tonight, I made a stop at the Time Warner Center to get a quick bite to eat the Whole Foods there - what a surprise.  ;)  In any case, since I had a bit of time to spare, I decided to check out the Williams-Sonoma....

I am not worthy... I am not worthy....

WOW!

It really is a BIG store.  Nicely laid out, and there's even a small second floor "loft" in the back that features some of their fine dining linens, flatware and china.

My only quibble/question with the layout is the open kitchen area that is used for demonstrations and classes.  It's in the back of the store, but the area around it - where the students and observers sit - is very small.  They were setting up for a class tonight, and the staff was trying to squeeze 20 chairs into the area they cordoned.

But, otherwise, it's a great space.  Lots of stuff on display.  Lots of room to move around, and a neat "inventory helper" system.  In order to keep more stuff on display (like in most Williams-Sonoma locations), they keep most of the stock in back.  Well, each of the clerks is equipped with a headset system that is hooked directly into the backroom.  It was very neat watching the clerks talk into their lapel mics, and then a minute later watching an inventory clerk walk up to the counter with the item in hand.

In related news...  The NY Times reported yesterday that Sur La Table will be opening their first NYC store in SoHo in the fall.  Most Sur La Table locations have separate kitchen/classrooms.  I was surprised that they weren't already in Manhattan.

-Oh, and nothing left my wallet while I was in Williams-Sonoma this afternoon.  ;)  Willpower, I tell ya!

And I meant to post this recipe earlier in the week from the New York Times Magazine this past Sunday.

Bon Appetit!

;)

***********************

Light-as-Air Brunch[/i]

Air, approximately 6 cubic feet
1 pound highest-grade sirloin
3 eggs
4 perfect lobsters
Whipping cream, basil and the most expensive mushrooms obtainable anywhere in the world.

1. Mix, in a mixing bowl, the air. Set aside to cool.

2. Take the sirloin, the eggs, the perfect lobsters and the incredibly expensive mushrooms and return them to the store.

3. Come home.

4. Remember that you also should have returned the stupid basil and the idiotic whipping cream.

5. Bag up basil and whipping cream, go back to the store exasperated, return basil and whipping cream, stomp out of store.

6. Come home, pretend to be eating the air in the bowl, look at imaginary person to your right, slowly shaking head as if to say, Wow, was that good. Serves 1 to 20.

Important: If you experience actual pleasure during any of the above steps, you are doing it wrong. Smack yourself in the head with tenderizing mallet until headache develops, then repeat Steps 1 through 6, watching carefully for signs of enjoyment. A desirable variation involves skulking around the neighborhood to see if anyone is enjoying a lush, decadent meal. If so, lecture on benefits of self-denial and sinful nature of self-gratification until he or she loses appetite or chases you away. Sneak back later, firebomb his or her grill.

In honor of the title "I THINK I'M GONNA LIKE IT HERE," I'm going to bring a CD of Annie to work to listen to.  I think I'll bring the Israeli cast recording...in Hebrew!! ;D

In my DVD player:  The Man from Snow River: The Arena Spectacular and "Bjorn Again," the documentary/concert DVD of the ABBA tribute band (both were gotten from eBay).

In my CD player:  a whole bunch of stuff that I have at work, to be listed (and listened to) later.  I have so much that I just got and need to listen to.  I don't remember what all is there. ::)

In my VCR:  Thursday night's clip-fest episode of "The Apprentice" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

That's it for now.  I have to put out the recycling now so that it can be picked up in the morning (before I wake up).

HAVE A GREAT TIME IN NEW YORK, EVERYONE!!  I wish I could be there.

Good morning, all!  I slept quite badly last night, and I'm sure it was the elation of seeing Dear Friend BK last night and catching up on all the news, getting back here  and catching up on all the posts, and knowing what a mad whirl this weekend is going to be.  After turning out the light, my mind kept bouncing off the walls of my skull for some time.  I'm not complaining, only realizing that I'll need to crash after Barnes&Noble before DRGinny arrives and we head off to some dinner.

TOD:  I doubt I'll be watching any television before Sunday, so that cancels out DVD and VCR.  CD:  Jerome Kern, John Rutter cjoral pieces, Bryn Terfel, and Zez Confrey.

It's Today! (a Mame reference)

I'm up and putting the final touches on my preparations and will be off to Cleveland in a couple of hours.  Due into NYC about 5pm.

CD's (car - it's a long drive to Cleveland) - second half of the John Adams bio audiobook and, YAY, bk's Stephen Schwartz album.  The discussion earlier this week made me want to hear it and my library doesn't own it.  I went online to MORE (Moving Ohio's Resources Everywhere) and it arrived from a library clear across the state yesterday.  Some other CD's, too, which I haven't quite decided on.

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers.

Media check:
Car: bagpipe music

By the way, I apparently wore my camera out. I'm told it's not worth fixing. I took over 9000 pictures in 13 months, so I got good use out of it. I expect I'll go shopping for another one today, since I use it for work all the time.
