Ernest J. Gaines has died. I got to meet him once when he had a reading here in San Antonio. I treasure my autographed copy of A Lesson in Dying. Also loved The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.

In the never thought it would happen in a zillion years department - I'm nominated for an Ovation Award for best score for A Carol Christmas.  First time ever.  The Ovations are easy to game, as a simple look at the theaters and people who are nominated every year will tell you.  There aren't a lot of entries in book and score, maybe that's why we got in, but it's nice to finally have a nomination from a group I was resigned to thinking would never do so.

What wonderful news!

TOD - I knew the they-thing was here to stay when I heard it used by a Miami University professor of English.

The one that made me shake my head was when I was given the opportunity to have my preferred pronouns listed on my name badge for the American Library Association annual conference.

If I may ask, DR Ginny, how did you respond? Or more to the point, do you have any sense of how the majority of attendees responded? And was the question taken seriously for the most part? Ridiculed for the most part? All or none of the above?

It was optional, DR ChasSmith, so I just did not respond.  I noticed a few badges with pronouns on them, but ALA is a pretty tolerant organization and I don't think there would be any (open) ridicule.

That’s good to hear.

I read Lesson and A Gathering of Old Men.  I only saw the excellent Pittman film & didn't read it.

I saw the headline on the dog & hadn't read it yet.  I could not tell what the words were saying that she tapped on ;D

They showed the dog tapping on the words "look," "come," and "outside."

Finished a new set of liner notes and decided which two thing we're releasing this week - one show title, and one film-related title, so covering both bases, as they say.  The show title is especially gratifying - something I produced that's been OOP for many years now.  It will be great to have it back in the catalogue.

Congrats. It's a terrific score and very, very, worthy of this. Vibes that you win, as well.

TOD:
I find this overuse of "they" very silly. Gender fluidity is challenging language norms to be sure, but I would think there's a better way to handle it.

My bottled water arrived. It was not delivered to my door, as requested, but left at the bottom of the stairs. One of my "males"--my neighbor David--was kind enough to bring it upstairs. My usual male--my neighbor Zen--is in the Philippines currently. He's also in his seventies and I avoid asking him for help with anything heavy. Brian, my cleaning guy, also qualifies as one of my males, but he isn't here today.

In the Amazon customer service survey I did mention that USPS may not be the best choice for heavy packages.

I booked my surgery for January. It's a load off, because I have no end of stuff to catch up on and really would rather not have to deal with 4-5 days of downtime until after the holidays.

I had my car washed. The buzz around here is, "Do you think it's safe to wash my car?" Our cars are all filthy. Let's hope they stay clean for a while--for many reasons.

I must be off.  I'm going down to Centralia to the Evergreen Playhouse to get a headshot for their season.  I'm in Mamma Mia!...which won't actually go up until next May or June.  But they want headshots now, so I'll get one.

Be back later.

I saw what they were doing.  I was under the impression when tapping on it the board then said the words.  That is what I couldn't hear/understand.

I am glad you have some "males" to assist you.  The use of males fits the conversation today.
