I've started another 3-hour German flick again (don't they have editors there?). It's called Toni Erdmann. And it's excellent, but it's also a bit too angst-ridden. It's about a father who inserts himself into his daughter's life and business. She has devoted her life to business, and he upends everything, including doing things that embarrass her at work. I'm sure they will come to some understanding, but a movie about someone who's stressed out at work doesn't feel like an escape. So, maybe a half-hour at a time.

An hour later and the butter still isn't at room temperature. Oy.

And I'm now an hour into Toni Erdmann. It offers a great commentary on today's society and family relations.

I'm listening to this collection of articles, profiles and essays that Paul Theroux has written through the years. There was a weird profile of Elizabeth Taylor during her Michael Jackson years, a nice evaluation of Georges Simenon, an offbeat take on Oliver Sacks, often in the presence of his patients. All neat stuff.

Well, I like to listen to my books while walking from my parking place to my desk at work. it can take sometimes 10 minutes, depending on how full the lots are.

This morning, the profile was of a dominatrix and it was fairly explicit. I kept turning around, thinking someone might be able to hear these details as they were spilled out in a torrent. Of course, I had earplugs in, but I didn't know if that were enough.

The book has finally moved on to an article about Robin Williams, who became a fast friend of Oliver Sacks after the making of Awakenings.

Back from put-in one.  Glad we did this one as the gal has to really notch up her energy and find the positivity.  She's doing exactly what she's seen me fight against the entire rehearsal process - playing any of this show negatively - the play has many of those potential traps and I've avoided all of them.  Yes, there are super dramatic scenes that must be played with white hot intensity, but the other stuff has to have a strong, resourceful, and fun character.  I couldn't actually hear a word she was saying, so that was the big note for this evening: VOCAL ENERGY!

After work, I went to a birthday party at a tequila bar I had never visited before. Turns out the place is in the same building and next door to the ballroom where we were having classes later. So, all I had to do was walk from the bar to the ballroom.

That was convenient.

Now I have to wait for three sticks of butter to reach room temperature, so I can make a couple of tarts tonight. I was voluntold to bring them to a dinner party tomorrow night that I didn't know I had been invited to.

I never eat out on Valentine's Day, so a homecooked meal will be nice, too.

I forgot we won't want to eat out tomorrow night.  That's ok as I am sure I gained a couple of pounds today.

Tonight, the actors hot together and just had a speed-through of just the script (no staging or costumes) to be prepared for tomorrow after the break.
