I spoke to Shelly Winters several times on the phone when I worked at the Drama Book Shop.  She had an account.  She was friendly and always seemed a bit scattered.  She would ask me to tell her the latest bios that had arrived, and she would add comments like, "That might be interesting" or "I worked with him/her."  She once ended a conversation with, "So sad. They're all dead now."

One of the other clerks once delivered a package of books to her apartment,  He said she rang him up and a hand came from around the door to take the package from him.  She said she had just got out of the tub abd was naked.

She lived around the corner from my father and he would see her when he still walked the neighborhood.   She was always friendly.

And the word of the day is: SUCCEDANEUM!

Coincidentally, SUCCEDANEUM! was the first word that escaped my lips yesterday when I fired up my scanner software, only to find that Canon's last driver support for that scanner was for the operating system I just upgraded FROM.

Actually, if truth be told, there were several other words, most being of a multisyllabic nature describing my wonderment at this being the second time in a decade that a trusty Canon scanner has been magically transformed into a brick at the hands of its own manufacturer's support policies.

More vibes for TCB's sister.

Sounds like she's in better shape than our friend here was. He was found (thanks to a daily checkup by friends) unresponsive, and he remained unresponsive and intubated for the next few days in ICU. Scary stuff, man.

(Continuing my sad story)...

Fortunately, with much fumbling, I was able to use Apple's image capture utility with that scanner for a quick thing I needed to send off to someone. That's a simple app, though, and it won't take advantage of some of the scanner's nicer features, so I began looking for replacement software. Well, what a fool I was for thinking I'd be able to just grab some cheap or free thing. People want real money for this stuff. A leading program called VueScan does everything I want, and more, but the full version costs $89, nearly half the price I paid for the damned scanner in the first place, and the utterly useless "budget" version is $39. My, oh my.

Well, I just took another baby step into the 21st century by installing Zoom on my laptop. I needed it for this webinar I'll be sitting in on this afternoon (with apologies to DR Elmore :) ).  Pray for Rosemary's baby.

My sister tells me Zoom is the place to be and that several of my brothers and sisters have a weekly Zoom meeting.....so perhaps I shall look into it.

Today.....yes today.....in fact less than 15 minutes ago....I was stimulated by the mail man.

My check was bent in two different places as if it had been through the mill - and back - but it has arrived.

I feel your pain DR CHAS SMITH.

My first scanner from 1999 worked well and it had lots of features...one day it stopped working....and I went to look for a new driver.  The scanner site said that my model was at EOL and that new drivers were not available.

That is the day that I learned that EOL in tech speak means End of Life......

Now I usually buy the Canon Printer/Copier/Scanner - and they last several years......

Was it easy to do and what did it cost?

Fairly easy. The software is free. You'd definitely want to set it up and make sure it's operational before going online with it.

If you want to HOST conferences, it's probably advisable to spend the $15 or $20 for an upgrade. Otherwise, you're restricted to 40 minutes in length, and there are probably other benefits to upgrading.

SUCCEDANEUM!!  That's what I said when I followed DR GEORGE's link from last night.....to see my formerly FAT self dancing.....we did not win the contest.....

And if my partner had told me she planned to wear Veronica Lake's hair, I would have helped her with it.....she surprised me with the do as we were introduced....

But I do still enjoy that song!  It's one of my favorite disco tunes.

Very fun to watch!

My first experience with Zoom was the webinar that was hacked by foul mouthed teenagers.    The next was our Rotary meeting and that went well.   I really love using the virtual background.  You can be on the beach, in the mountains or anywhere in a photo you upload as your background

We got some kind of vegan patties in our produce box this morning.  Not soy crumbles. Mostly broccoli and carrots, I think. Hmm.
