It’s weird being the same age as old people

Mahagonny now on the TV set. It's amazing how much of the set and stage images I remember. And this is 40 years ago.

We're up to 491 cases in my county (not including the county across the river that has been growing even faster than us, even though they only have a population of 20,000 people) It's expected to just keep rising as they refuse to close down the packing plants here so they can try to keep the food chain moving.  If you like meat, I'd suggest you buy it up - processing has slowed in the plants here and stopped in other parts of the state. There is no question that prices will rise.  They are keeping plants open even though the disease is spreading like crazy because if there are no processors then the farmers raising the hogs will have to start euthanizing them.  The plants process something like 40,000 head a day, so it's a problem.  I guess the decision was made that the people working there don't matter as much as the food chain.

Why can’t they just keep the pigs alive until the plants can reopen?

Apparently there is an ideal weight and after that they lose money for each so many pounds they gain.  Plus it's a system, they have some ready to give birth, some gaining weight and some on their way to market.  if you stop the ones leaving the others will just keep coming and they don't have the facilities for it.  I was pretty shocked when I read that, but it's about the same as dumping all the milk that couldn't be processed when part of the country couldn't get milk

I'm feeling very sad today.  I was really hoping to go back to my office next week, but that's not going to happen with this being a new hot spot.   I've got work to do I don't feel like doing, it's been 4 days since my Facebook timeline worked right and not a peep from customer service, and I just got in an argument with a neighbor - from a distance, he thinks this is pretty much blown out of proportion and "I'm a newsman so I know the real facts"  yeah right.   Last night I wanted to go to the office to just sit for a bit and the elevator wouldn't work with my fob, so I finally called the right person who activated it remotely.  I must have disturbed him because he turned it back off once I got to the 6th floor.  Not that big a deal yesterday as I wasn't carrying a ton of stuff and I could take the stairs down, but it was still pretty rude.

So, I think I'll just get off the computer, or start working on the next brief that's due ....or go eat the last frosted roll that's sitting on the kitchen counter

The Met production of Mahagonny is very different from the John Doyle. James Levine takes the score much slower. And actually, the Met orchestra sounds a little too smooth. Teresa Stratas sings better than Audra, but Audra made a better whore, thanks largely to her dancing skills. Doyle, known for his spartan stagings, actually helms the more visually opulent production. That doesn't make it any better.

I'm up again - guess I got three more hours of sleep, although it doesn't feel like it a ALL.  Guess I'll mosey on over to the mail place and hope the Amazon idiots are taking a break on Sunday.

The two worst counties in Maryland are where Craig lives and works.  I am not looking forward to schools reopening.

Very hot out again.  And yet, I see people outside, near absolutely no other human being, wearing huge masks.  I mean, in this heat?  I just don't get it.

DR John G., I’m glad the Met DVD worked out for you. Now I need to watch the L.A. one with Audra — which I do have here, I have confirmed.

Laundry is in the washer.

A good breakfast has been eaten.

And I have just declared today to be Clean the Desk ATPTSI (and the piles that surround it) Day.

Operation Clean the Desk went off fine. I’m afraid the ATPTSI part is holding for tomorrow.
