We're up to 491 cases in my county (not including the county across the river that has been growing even faster than us, even though they only have a population of 20,000 people) It's expected to just keep rising as they refuse to close down the packing plants here so they can try to keep the food chain moving.  If you like meat, I'd suggest you buy it up - processing has slowed in the plants here and stopped in other parts of the state. There is no question that prices will rise.  They are keeping plants open even though the disease is spreading like crazy because if there are no processors then the farmers raising the hogs will have to start euthanizing them.  The plants process something like 40,000 head a day, so it's a problem.  I guess the decision was made that the people working there don't matter as much as the food chain.

Why can’t they just keep the pigs alive until the plants can reopen?

Good question!

Apparently there is an ideal weight and after that they lose money for each so many pounds they gain.  Plus it's a system, they have some ready to give birth, some gaining weight and some on their way to market.  if you stop the ones leaving the others will just keep coming and they don't have the facilities for it.  I was pretty shocked when I read that, but it's about the same as dumping all the milk that couldn't be processed when part of the country couldn't get milk

Ahh...very good answer.

I'm feeling very sad today.  I was really hoping to go back to my office next week, but that's not going to happen with this being a new hot spot.   I've got work to do I don't feel like doing, it's been 4 days since my Facebook timeline worked right and not a peep from customer service, and I just got in an argument with a neighbor - from a distance, he thinks this is pretty much blown out of proportion and "I'm a newsman so I know the real facts"  yeah right.   Last night I wanted to go to the office to just sit for a bit and the elevator wouldn't work with my fob, so I finally called the right person who activated it remotely.  I must have disturbed him because he turned it back off once I got to the 6th floor.  Not that big a deal yesterday as I wasn't carrying a ton of stuff and I could take the stairs down, but it was still pretty rude.

So, I think I'll just get off the computer, or start working on the next brief that's due ....or go eat the last frosted roll that's sitting on the kitchen counter

Eat the last frosted roll, then start working on the next brief that's due. :)

That was the photo I couldn't respond to on FB.  Aside from the math, these protesters are fanatics & without logic.

I received an email today from cruise critic and was shocked by the headline "Shipyards Gradually Return to Work Building Cruise Ships".    DR TCB would you go on a cruise?

I warned Keith when we walked down to the little beach that there were likely to be people there today.  It would have been ok as there weren't a lot of people.  The problem was not a single person moved at all to the side for us.  We had to circle around them and they never said thank you.

The Zoom baby shower was fun and it was so-o-o-o good to see family and friends.  There was a nice mix of Mary Linda’s family and Rob’s and 7 states were represented.  There’s a photo on my Facebook page.

Started watching a strange and visually beautiful Japanese movie called the Ballad of Narayama. At 70, people are supposed to go off and die on the mountain. In this one, I think it's because the woman's family is so ugly that she'd be glad to be rid of them.
