THE FIRST NUDIE NOTES
« on: April 27, 2020, 12:56:50 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were naked as a jaybird, and now it is time for you to post until the naked cows come home.  The Naked Cows Come Home - that's the title of my next novel.

I slept terribly last night, so I fed the cats and went back to bed until 7:45.  My body aches, every joint hurts, walking is an ordeal, and I hope it's not Covid-19.

I may check out the Sondheim concert today, but I have several things I really need to do.

I need to put my miniature scores in order so I can find Ravel's La Valse, and I've got a stack of DVDs to put away since the cats' romping sends them flying all over the floor.

I also slept poorly. Weird isolation dreams about other people.

I guess I am too boring to dream about myself. Either that or too much Boccaccio and it’s all storytelling.

We don't have local news now....much.  A few stories here and there, with reporters in the field.....and the anchors sitting very far away from each other.

But mostly it's Moms or high school students or old men who are raising money for their various causes because they all think we need to be educated about what the Pandemic is and what it is doing to THEM and what is important to them.....because we DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!

I am unmoved to give a dime.

BK:  You must be viewing Criterion’s original standalone release of PLAYTIME.
In their complete Tati set it’s a 2013 scan:

“Created in 6.5K resolution from the original 65mm negative, a 1967 internegative, and a 2002 interpositive (.....) The 3.0 surround soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from Tati’s final 1978 70mm 6-track mix.”

TOD:

Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, Lover Come Back for all of them

Rock Hudson
Written on the Wind
Giant
The Last Sunset
Ice Station Zebra
Pretty Maids All In A Row

Tony Randall
He was so annoying to me that I really don't have any other favorites to say.  During the time he was on tv in THE ODD COUPLE, he would sometimes be on The Hollywood Squares.  He sat in the bottom right corner wearing sunglasses.  When they called on him, he took the sunglasses off and gave a one or two work answer and put the sunglasses back on, as if he were just too good to be there or annoyed to find himself on the show.....I hated it when he was on....it took all of the fun out of the whole show.....

Doris Day
Almost everything but especially:
By The Light of the Silvery Moon
On Moonlight Bay
Tea for Two
Pajama Game
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Love Me or Leave Me
and her comedies with James Garner

Every time I hear someone say ZEPHYR, I want to say "Bless you."

When I hear or see the word, my thoughts immediately turn to hearing various incarnations of “The Great [Crepitation] Contest” on radio and public domain LPs back in the day.

I don't think I've ever seen Pillow Talk.  When it first was released, my mother forbade my going near it, biut she and my dad went to see it.

Last night’s YouTube presentation seemed to suffer from noticeable audio distortion in several of the songs. Or maybe it was our setup here which was less than optimal. I’ll be revisiting a few of the sections later today or tomorrow anyway, and will see what’s what.

My biggest problem with a lot of those Doris Day 1960s movies like The Glass Bottom Boat and Send Me No Flowers is the kitschy, Mickey Mouse scores of DeVol.  They drive me up the wall.

I thought the Sondheim tribute was terrific.   I have to say though, that Norm Lewis's version of "With So Little to Be Sure Of" (along with "Who Could Be Blue?") is one of my favorite recordings ever.

I watched the YouTube video of Elizabeth Stanley from last night’s concert and the lips were not in sync with the singing. Very irritating. A friend of mine kept complaining about that last night, but I didn’t understand what she was talking about. It didn’t happen on my screen.
