Back in the 1980s, when VHS tapes were just becoming popular, you had to join a video club and pay a membership to be able to rent movies.  My sister's then husband (now late ex-husband) belonged to a video club just a few blocks from where my parents live.  I remember one time where all of us went to look at all the movies available and I saw this video box:

I was just out of high school and didn't have my own membership, so there was no way that I could rent it myself, but I never forgot that cover (even a gay boy like me).  It wasn't until I came here to HHW and discovered what it was and who made it, and the significance of my birthday to the movie!  And now, I own the 35th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray!

Today, I'm going to my parents' house around noon to have tacos, and I think to help my mom with a few things around the house.  We'll more than likely play our usual Phase 10.  In the evening, my sister is going to have pizza at her house, and probably more Phase 10 playing.  That's my whole day. ;D

I learned yesterday, by reading, that DR Chas’s friend Reverend Mother Dolores Hart is the niece of Mario Lanza!

Several weeks ago, in his notes BK mentioned watching Anatomy of A Murder.  I had seen the film - which my mother forbade me to see on its first release - on VHS sometime around 1989 when I purchased my first VCR, but BK's notes made me want to see it again/

So, on the day of BK's notes I ordered it from Netflix, only it never arrived, thanks to the state of the US mail after the beginnings of the quarantine.  So I reordered it last week, and it arrived on Saturday.  The companion disc I ordered, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, hasn't shown up yet.

Last night the cats and I watched Anatomy of A Murder, and we really really really (as Thatch would say) enjoyed it.  I had forgotten what an amazing cast of wonderful character actors are in it, each one perfect in their turn, and I had forgotten, too, how funny it is at times.  George C. Scott's reaction to Kathryn Grant's admission that the victim was her father after he badgered her to admit he was her love was a big LOL moment.  Was Jimmy Stewart ever better?

And Joseph Welch remains one of my heroes.

It was an early one for me because at six in the a.m. Nathan had to fire off his “bird banger” (I think that’s what it’s called — it’s an exterminator’s thing) at a BEAR that had just knocked down every bird feeder. They hightail it out of there when you do that, no question. One just wishes they’d hightail it back to the damned wilderness. But one wishes a lot of things, doesn’t one.
