DR JRand, have you read any of the unsuccessful plays that Inge wrote after DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS. I knew he had a series of flops in the 1960s, but I've never read (nor seen performed) any of them.

I've read two of the produced ones, but I can't remember which was which now!  One was called NATURAL AFFECTION.  One play was about a really horrible New York mother who when forced to choose between her son and hot studly second husband (lover?) chooses the sex.  The son brutally murders the neighbor girl attracted to him.

The other play was about an older gay man, his former young hustler and the boy's marriage to a young woman.  I believe Beau Bridges played the boy.

Both plays were very lurid, and not very good.

I have read a couple of Inge's later plays, maybe the ones DR ELMORE talks about and one novel called GOODBYE, MISS WYCKOFF or something similar that I liked a lot.  My favorite Inge will ALWAYS be PICNIC with COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA a very close second.  Maybe it's a tie.

Watching The Marx Brothers At The Circus.  Hmmmmmm.....WHY would you start the movie with a boring number by the bland Florence Rice?  In fact there is way TOO much Rice and Kenny Baker in the first half hour.  I don't think I can finish this movie!

Random thoughts:

Today is one of the butt-ugliest days we've had all winter. The sky is black, the rain is pouring and it's cold.  Yesterday, the sun was shining, the air was clear and it was a crisp 62 degrees with a nice ocean breeze.

Sigh.

When I was in the Navy, I had many friends in the Marine Corps (despite some folks thinking sailors and Marines are like oil and water).

Anyway, one Christmas I was gifted with a Marine Corpuscle.  I still have it but a few pieces are missing.

Someone sent me the photo below....truly indicative of one of our hugest problems, donchathink?!!!?

VCR: Tape of the West Wing from this past Wednesday night
(am I the only DR who watches this?)

DR vixmom - No, you're not!  We've been WW fans since the beginning.  Since I started working 12-9 on Wednesdays, I usually only get to see the last half.  Usually I can get the gist of what's going on.  Hope you enjoy this week's episode.

Re:  Inge.  When I was working on my Masters at Reed College (which allowed Masters candidates to pretty much just do as they wished ;) ), I scored a production of Picnic.  The funny thing is we recorded in a building with a metal roof and there was torrential downpour that day, so I think all the playgoers who heard the music wondered why there was a Gamelan orchestra playing in "middle America."

Y'all probably know this already (because a more erudite bunch of folk would be hard to find), but there's a musical version of Come Back, Little Sheba starring (improbably, IMHO) Donna McKechnie.  The score kind of leaves me cold.  Sorry if there are lovers of said score here.  :)

Off to be the orchestra at Pajama Game again.

One last post before I go.

DR WFO, could you explain something mathematical to me?  We love fractals in this here home environment, but I do not get how the formulae translate into the patterns.  For instance on our fractal calendar, the formula for April is z=z2 + c.  Is this some sort of plot-pointing on an axis to create the visual?  If so, what the heck is "c"?  Any edification would be most appreciated.

Well I am on my way to Seattle very soon. Must first hie myself up to Wilsonville and pick up my buddy Mark. We will be staying at Mark's boyfriend Jim's apartment, where hopefully I will be able to check in via Jim's computer.

Media check: Music for the drive up will include LYNN ANDERSON, RONNIE MILSAP, TIM MCGRAW, some 1970s stuff and maybe some 1980s stuff (I will sneak in some disco!).

My playing any Bollywood, Arabian pop, Japanese pop, or 1920s jazz in the car...well, it wouldn't be pretty...those country boys from Wyoming aren't very open minded! LOL!

Good Morning!

I'm up.  I'm up.  A very good sleep.

Just had my bowl of cereal, and now I'm gonna head out for a little walk, and when I get back I shall have my massage - my long overdue massage.  :)

(I was going to explain about sealed youth records and such until it suddenly occurred to me that she had the proper attitude to keep herself out of trouble with the law in her rapidly approaching teenage years!!  So I shut up!!  ;D)

Don't bet on it.  I know of cases where those "sealed" youth records are mysteriously available to any law enforcement officer who does a search.  But then, this is keeping us safe from terrorists.  Like that global positioning microchip in your cell phone.

Hmmm.  I did read (some of) Mandelbrot's book about fractals when he was on campus about 25 years ago.  But it all escapes me now.

Now is that formula actually z = z2 + c  or
                                             z = z² + c?

I would guess that c is an arbitrary constant.  What does the corresponding picture look like?

I'm up, I'm up.

CORPUSCLE!  That word would wake anyone up.

Don't get me started on the justice system in this country.  Someone should throw that judge behind bars is what someone should do.  And yes, every day dangerous criminals are set free to prey on people once again.  But a first-time offender for some creative accounting?  Sure, throw him in jail as if he were the equivalent of a serial killer.  Do you know, if people banded together (I mean the country) and said, "Stop, we're not having this anymore, and if you don't stop every person in this country will refuse to pay their taxes - want to see how fast things can change?  That's all it would take.

The story about Angel Jim breaks my heart.  It reminds me of something I saw on tv (yesterday I think).  I didn't catch most of it, but 3 ordinary women went into a women's prison to see a Day In The Life.  It was too heartbreaking to watch.  I mean they had one woman who had been trying to kill herself, and who accidently shot (and I think killed) her 1 yr old child. And so she was put in jail (for life I think).  Now this was an accident, and it was HER OWN CHILD (so obviously just that in itself would probably be torture enough).  But am I the only one who doesn't understand why they would put someone like this in jail for life?
