FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were discernible and had reason, and now it is time for you to post until the discerning cows come home.

Today, I'm going to have my annual eye exam.  Last week, I got and replied to an e-mail to contact my eye doctor to set up an appointment, and they called me back just yesterday.  They were scheduling appointments into August, but had a couple of appointments today, and I said yes!  So, I'll leave work at 4:30 for my 5:00 appointment.  When I get there (and I have to have a mask), I have to call them from my car, and they'll come out, take my temperature, and then they'll let me in when it's time.

But first, sleep, then my normal-ish time at work.

Have a good day, all!

I did not sleep well last night.  Annabelle stayed with me most of the night, a strange occurrence since she usually wanders off to sleep on her cushion up in the bookcases.  Stella and Thatch came by, but I think my restlessness drove them off.

Now that I'm suffering from arthritis - though not nearly as badly as Byron Janis - perhaps I should cut him some slack.  His general unpleasantness at the time I worked on his show, and I do not even remember now how I got involved, may have much to do with the constant pain he must be in.

BK, on the subject of Franz Liszt, you might enjoy James Lapine's movie Impromptu, about the love affair between Chopin and George Sand, with appearances by Franz Liszt, his mistress, and playwright Alfred de Musset.  Judy Davis' George Sand chasing Hugh Grant's Chopin is like watching a shark chase a minnow.

Last night, for the first time in over forty years, the cats and I watched Witness for the Prosecution.  I remembered only bits of the film, like Una O'Connor's trial testimony, the banter between Laughton and Lanchester, Marlene Dietrich's "Wanna kiss me, Duckie?" and scar, and the wonderful ending with the cancellation of the vacation, but it's a film I could watch over and over because the cast and direction are so good.  I thought the Laughton-Lanchester scenes owed a bit to The Man Who Came To Dinner, and they are clearly having the time of their lives playing off each other.  I've always liked Norma Varden, who can do no wrong, but the cast is an amazing collection of wonderful character actors and I revelled in the performances.

I just checked the bank, and my unemployment landed, so as soon as I finish kitty cleanup, I will head out to the pharmacy.

They have started work. I think they're on a break now because I don't hear anything.

I made baked oatmeal for breakfast. It's pretty good. I used far less sugar than the recipe called for, and I added almonds and dried blueberries. Next time, I might add chocolate chips and/or some flavoring, like vanilla or cherry extract.

I am home from my errands.  The taxi driver down to the pharmacy was particularly obnoxious and offensive.
