I remember L.A. during Santa Anas in late summer or fall, when it would reach 105 and over. But the saying, “well at least it’s a dry heat” definitely applied. You could still function.

I tried a new restaurant today, a vegan Italian place. I'd been meaning to try it, but life so often gets in the way. It was quite good. The Caesar salad was, I think, the best I've eaten anywhere and the minestrone soup, which I sampled, was very good. I ordered a pizza, too, which was just OK, but I'm not a fan of pizza and don't really know why I wanted it. I'll try their vegan fettucini alfredo another day. The sad thing: I was their only customer.

I watched a little bit of the KL show last night, and will watch the whole thing one evening this week. I really enjoyed the other shows and expect to enjoy this one as well.

Jane, I've made a lot of gluten-free pasta lately, trying different brands, and happily I've not found a bad one. I think Jovial's capellini is probably my favorite. The ones with spinach are a bit heavy, but that's probably to be expected.

Our governor has requested an extension of the National Guard as the 1,000 guard members are assisting with food banks as well as contact tracing of the pandemic and operating community-based test sites.

I had no idea they were doing this. George & Tom, did you?

It was 1:30 pm, past the lunch hour and, yes, I'm sure they get delivery orders. They opened the business maybe six months or so ago and did it on a family-style concept: one large table only. Not practical during Covid. They may have to rethink that. This restaurant deserves a better location with outdoor seating. I want to see it succeed.

Glad to hear they're doing this. I've found it quite difficult to obtain quality local news for LA.

Then this wazoo did what they all do - move the goalposts - rather than simply acknowledge, he said that this doesn't really travel outdoors - it's indoors, bars and restaurants. So, suddenly it's not a danger outdoors? I asked the obvious question: If that's so, why are we wearing masks, why were people blamed and shamed daily for not wearing masks, if not a one of them got the virus. He then did the next obvious thing: He said I had no right to comment because I'm in CA and when CA flattens the curve then I can talk. I said, what does this have to do with CA? I said, the stories and photos were either truthful or they were lies - that's it. Either outdoors is dangerous or it's not. If thousands of New Yorkers were partying in the streets, if no one got it while demonstrating without masks, then what is the "Wear the effing mask" about. Clearly it's meaningless when they need it to be meaningless, when they try to move the goalposts. Then he got personal and I had to call him a baboon Then I blocked him. And to make sure he still didn't do his dirty business, I nuked the thread in its entirety, which is a little Facebook trick I learned. If you're posting in a thread and your post gets responses, if you remove that initial post, the post and EVERY response goes away, leaving only the person's original thread and its other comments. This guy is someone I thought I'd blocked long ago. I've seen videos of him "singing" - not someone I would EVER work with because he's got not an ounce of subtlety or interpretive talent.

And the governor threatened to shut the city down if they didn't behave themselves. Maybe the threat worked. To say it doesn't travel at all outdoors is not an explanation to your question. I wish I could find one. I think the city overall has done a fantastic job. Maybe locals have a different opinion and can explain this better. I can't find anything.

I would be very happy if anyone can come up with a better line of protection from the virus than wearing a mask and washing your hands. Until then the only way to know if it works is if everyone does it.

Not wearing masks is obviously not working.

Yes. Every time I am going to try one Keith says I am wasting our money. I am so picky he is probably correct which is why I stick to what I like.

Finally had the chance to see the Met schedule for the week. The one I'd love to watch is Berg's Wozzeck, which is Thursday. I happen to be going to a social distancing pool party that evening.
