That's a cool picture in today's notes. :)

Last night was the best night of sleep I have had in a long time, and I am very grateful for that.

My federal unemployment stipend, which I believe ends next week, did land in this morning's bank account.

Last night we watched The Pale Horse, an Agatha Christie mystery about organized murder and witchcraft.  Miss Marple does not appear in the original Christie novel, and this is one more BBC scramble of several in this latest series of Marple mysteries to force her into another's story.

As to this scrambled arrangement of The Pale Horse, I enjoyed it.  The production is quite tasty, and the cast very good.  It was nice to see Pauline Collins, and Jonathan Cake, a handsome actor I last saw in the Lincoln Center production of Cymbeline, plays the original novel's hero Mark Estabrook, pushed aside for Miss Marple.  He didn't seem to mind.

I'm sorry to hear they didn't make the effort to do original covers on the Toscanini set. The original RCA LM/Shaded Dog releases had plenty of interesting variety. But it seems that starting with the Victrola LP reissues, which were uniform but varied in color and photo, the Old Man has tended to always get uniform sets.

I do envy BK in having acquired all of these amazing sets.  :)

Yes, we have one more Sunday claim to make on that. And my 39 weeks of the state one continue through December. (I only qualify for the minimum amount on that one.)

But at least they're now -- finally -- TALKING about another round of stimulus, and it seems fairly probable (fingers crossed) that this will be extended or restarted, even if not in the same amount.

Did you know that Toscanini played cello in the orchestra for the premiere of Verdi's opera Otello?

I heard it may be cut down to $400 or less, but i'm hoping it happens.  God knows I'm getting no work.

Yes, I read quite a bit on him back in my school days. And didn't he conduct the world premiere of one of the Puccini operas? (I'm a little hazy on that one.)

Maybe it was Turandot? -- with the famous moment in which he turned to the audience and said "And here, Maestro laid down his pen" or something like that?

I am enjoying Ingmar Bergman's version of The Magic Flute.

I really like Tamino and Papageno - nice looking fellows who play their parts well.  I am assuming they sang their parts......

My question for ASK BK DAY:

Would a film like "I Was a Teen-Age Frankenstein" have a sneak preview anywhere - or would the producers just loose it on an unsuspecting world?

Here following are a few of the pictures that will go into an album. This first one is of his entry into this house. Click to enlarge.

Kristi got that carrier specifically to go to that house and get him, and he took his leave of us in it yesterday, lying in it with the top removed. It's actually been our favorite of the carriers we have, and we're keeping it.

When I was a teenager, the local revival theater would show that on Christmas Day. It was a joyous excuse to get out of the house and away from family.

He and I literally bonded at my desk. I had just begun working at home when our company was bought by the one in Dallas, and Poe would come in and crawl up my leg to go to sleep in my lap.

The film gave Haken Hagegard, the Papageno, an international career.
