It's not even nine o'clock and I just banged out six pages of a new story.  Whew!

It's a strange gray day here in the City of Studio.  Actually, the day isn't strange, but the weather certainly is.

I saw Christina Applegate on the Today show (today).  She might not be equal to the top broadway stars.  But she has a certain charm and sweetness.  And she sounded good.  I wonder if she is in any pain when she dances.  Because she danced quite a bit on the Today show.  And I kept wondering if each step was hurting her.

I haven't seen the whole show, but I bet a lot of the critics will admire her determination.

Or is it "meets a djinn?"  I forget!

It's a djinn.

A tongue is a tongue
And a lung is a lung
In a tale you can shout or sing
Without the gesture? Nothing!

Should Scherazade
Undulate her body
That can be expressed if you gest...
Can be assessed if you gest...
She'll be undressed if you gesticulate

If I tell you I was walking by the sea
and found a genie in a bottle, that's trite!

Right! For practically everyone has seen a genie someone had to throttle...in a bottle!

JR, I'm not sure if Pajama Game photos will be online anywhere, as this is a high school production.  I'll ask tonight when I go (opening night!).

In the unbelievable department:  we're 3 weeks into our current Tigard Pops Choir session and I always have to make a few calls to new people to see if they're continuing with the choir.  So I called this one lady last night and left a message on her machine asking if she was still planning on attending as I wasn't certain I had seen her for the last two weeks.  Lo and behold at 1 in the morning our phone rings, scaring Betsy and me half to death.  The machine picks it up and we hear this completely slurred voice saying "Hey, you called me.  I wanna continue with the choir but I've had a relapse--alcohol, y'know.  So let's see what happens."  Click.  Can you believe it?  Luckily the kids didn't wake up.

Right! But if I say the bottle was soooo teeny
And sooooo was the genie

Until with trembling hand, I pulled the cork
And threw the jug and covered up my eyes

Topic of the Day:

In my DVD player:  all three discs of "Penn & Teller's Bullsh*t!"  Yesterday afternoon, I watched the segment on the "Mucus Mask" with our very own BK!  Oh my goodness, what kind of people would allow this to be done to themselves?? :P It was hysterical!! ;D After that will be "Smiles of a Summer Night" that I just got from deepdiscountdvd.com!

In my CD player at work:  a whole bunch of CDs that I got from eBay and amazon.com, all within the last couple of weeks (cast albums first):

Mary Poppins:  the Original London cast recording!

Robin Hood:  The Ohio Light Opera Production of Reginald De Koven's "popular romantic-comic operetta."  I've have a former library copy of the vocal score for about 20 years a few months ago I also got a CD of period recordings of songs from the score!

Titanic:  The Ultimate Collection, produced by our very own BK...from eBay for only 99¢+$3.00 shipping!

Audra McDonald's "Happy Songs," used from a seller through amazon.com.

Nellie McKay's "Get Away From Me," the DualDisc format with the CD on one side and DVD stuff on the other.

"Geraldine Turner Sings the Stephen Sondheim Songbook, Volume 2" by Geraldine Turner.  I also have her first "Stephen Sondheim Songbook."

And the smoke began to curl
And the smoke began to swirl
And it curled and it swirled
And it swirled and it curled
As higher it did rise
Till it was sooooo high
And soooo was the genie
Then two great arms reached down
And liftd me up, up, up
Into the sky

Good Morning!.... Umm.... Good Afternoon!

-Well, it feel likes Morning to me right now...

I ended up falling asleep on the couch around 8:30, I guess.  I was watching the Today Show hoping to catch Christina Applegate, but I guess I zoned out by that time.  Then I remember waking up during the into for Christina Applegate on "Regis and Kelly", but I don't think I zoned again even before she was seated in her chair.  Then...

So, I guess I got about six hours of not so restless sleep....

Where or where has the day gone?

DR Jose:

I like your new avatar so much, I would like to ask a favor.  Can you post a larger version of same, so I can download it?  I printed out a copy of the small one, but too much detail is lost.

I can e-mail you the original.  It's a standard 4x6 print - not cropped - and a large file, so...  Do you have a high-speed connection?  or would you like a standard size file of the cropped/avatar version?

In his notes today, our esteemed BK wrote:

Quote
Then I had to go back to Mr. Grant Geissman’s and finish doing whatever work needed to be done on the Guy Haines tracks. That took five hours, but it’s all finished, save for the few tracks that get horns put on them.

I believe we should all send our condolences to those few tracks for being cuckolded.

And a hearty cheer (with Cherry Coke) to DR Sandra!

Media Check:

Car CD player: Volume Two of American Musical Theater: Shows, Songs, and Stars from the Smithsonian Collection of Recordings.  Volume two covers from 1934 (Ethel Merman, "I Get a Kick Out of You" Anything Goes) to 1947 (Ella Logan, "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?" Finian's Rainbow).

This was after playing the soundtrack to Tarzan three times in a row.  But not the instrumental tracks, because those are "boring", according to the older grandlad.

DVD Player: The Adventures of Errol Flynn.

A friend sent the following to me:

Two men are drinking in a bar at the top of the Empire State Building. One turns to the other and says, "You know, last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building by the time you fall to the 10th floor, the winds around the building are so intense that they carry you around the building and back into the window."

The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar.

The 2nd Man says: "What are you a nut? There is no way that could happen."

1st Man: "No it's true let me prove it to you." So he gets up from the bar, jumps over the balcony, and careens to the street below. When he passes the 10th floor, the high wind whips him around the building and back into the 10th floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar.

The 2nd Man tells him: "You know I saw that with my own eyes, but that must have been a one time fluke."

1st Man: "No, I'll prove it again" and again he jumps and hurtles toward the street where the 10th floor wind gently carries him around the building and into the window. Once upstairs he urges his fellow drinker to try it.

2nd Man: "Well, what the hell, it works, I'll try it." So he jumps over the
balcony, plunges downward, passes the 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th floors and hits the sidewalk with a 'splat.'

Back upstairs the Bartender turns to the other drinker: "You know, Superman, you're really a jerk when you're drunk."
