I didn't realize that Bob the street cat had died. I read a tiny bit about it. How heartbreaking.

What a morose way to start page two.

DR ChasSmith, the gossip at the time of Thomas Fulton's death was that he was an AIDS victim. Kidney failure, brain tumor, cancer, etc. were often euphemisms to protect the victims' families from the scourge of telling the world the victim was gay. One of my most vivid memories of Opera News magazine between, say, 1986-1996 is how large the obituary section was.

Thank you for that. I had considered that possibility.

So, he conducted that H&G broadcast at age 32, and twelve years later he was dead. What can one say...

That damned plague killed too many talented people, and just as now, the asses in the GOP did nothing because it was just a"gay disease" and there are no gay people in the GOP.  Tell Lindsey Graham that.

DR Elmore speaks of the Wagnerian orchestra. There are musical passages that definitely brought to my mind a Wagnerian or Straussian-with-an-R moment.

Humperdinck was a Wagner discipl;e who assisted in the premiere of Parsifal.  He may even have some music in the scene changes.

Indeed. Coming back and listening to the piece after many years with my adult ears (wait, am I an adult yet?), I was amazed at the power of the orchestration.

So was Mahler.  His letter to Humperdinck saying he wanted to conduct the premiere is quite complimentary.

Go to YouTube and search under Street Cat Bob.  The new movie has been released in England, but I don't know when/if it will be shown in the US.

Okay, the new "Broadway Radio Show" bookmark is in place and working. Now we'll see how well *I* do.

And now, I must be off. I need to go to a fireplace supplies store for something, and the supermarket for literally only three or four things. This could even be my last outing before the weekend.

I was at the supermarket for a last-item run for a few things at 6:00AM this morning. I was in and out in under 10 minutes.

Same with me, re forgetting that the interviews are right here. I've enjoyed a number of them but I never succeeded in making it a regular thing in spite of several attempts. The same thing used to happen to me with Peter Filichia's column.

Here's why it happens:  Once I'm into my morning HHW routine (reading the rest of last night's posts, then reading the notes, then reading what's posted so far today, then jumping in), I'm mired in all of this activity and I no longer think about what else is out there.

I've thought of a solution that should work for me. In Safari I have a folder of bookmarks I call "Forums, Blogs, etc.", the topmost of which are HHW, HTF, and a couple of other sites I keep up with regularly. I'll add a new bookmark that links directly to the interviews. That'll keep me cognizant of it, and there should then be no excuses. Let's see how that works.

I, too, have stopped reading Peter’s column, and I think it’s because I used to access it through Facebook.

Or tell the GOP that covid is real. They’re doing nothing this time, and we’ve already lost some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world, not to mention 250,000 others.

My dog (Chester) is not a happy camper today.

He's at the groomer.

Yes, the kids doing Hansel and Gretel don't have the power to project and it's very obvious once mom and dad start singing.  It was fun to hear once, but the orchestra balance is just too weird and I'm now thinking they did it because of the kids, who they keep panning from left to right for no real reason and I think it's to get them away from the strings and brass as much as possible, which makes perfect sense - keep the band centered for the most part and the kids panned hard left and right.

I was referring back to when his column was here, because even then I'd forget to read it.

I am back from:

1. A masonry place where they told me what thing I need, which is readily available at Home Depot or Lowe's. It's hard to find and they told me where it would be.

2. Home Depot, where I picked up a few of them and hopefully one's the right fit. (It's a locking bolt thingy.)

3. The power equipment place where I picked up a thing I thought was going to be $15 or less, and it's $30. Joy.

4. Shop Rite, for my last three or four things and a couple of others -- and that's it, baby. I'm done.

Next up, a sandwich and a break, after which I will feed the animal, make the cranberry sauce so it will have two days to chill, cook and crumble the sage sausage for the stuffing, and then the rest of the day is mine.
