I don't know if any of you remember the story some time back about the little boy who said "Wow!" at an orchestral concert after the orchestra finished a rousing piece.


I don't know if I was aware of all the details at the time. but apparently the boy was autistic, and up to that point had been mute, so his spoken "wow" was a true milestone.


In any case, an acquaintance of mine in the Twin Cities metro, a poet, interviewed the boy's family, and some of the musicians involved, and wrote a children's book based on the incident, and he was just informed that the book has been picked up for publication by a division of Simon &  Schuster!


I think that's pretty cool.

I really miss being near mom, especially at the holidays. We had a baking tradition. Over a concentrated two days, we made approximately 200 dozen cookies of about 6 or 7 types, plus chocolate bark and cranberry nut bread. When I moved away, she gave me a hand-made book with all the recipes.


Sad to say, I just haven't felt like making them without her.

I read that as you had a “banking” tradition.  I thought it was a bit peculiar, but each family has their own traditions.

LA County is trying to make free Covid testing available throughout the county. A very good idea, IMO. I'm sure there are many people who are really worried that they have it. You shouldn't need to go through your doctor--particularly since so many of use are considered ineligible for a doctor's appointment. But why did it take us so long to get here? Possibly due to not enough test kits. Or other factors.

I believe there are ways to get free testing in Washington, others you can pay without a prescription.  Rite Aid has sent me emails that I can get tested there.  I don't know what the requirements are.

Bruce did you have to pay for your test?

No requirements, except making an appointment.

We are going to video chat with our friend tomorrow to connect beyond texting.  It is weird to video chat with someone that live 20 minutes away.

At my work, we've had Zoom meetings with people in different areas of the same building!

We were watching an episode of the Britcom To The Manor Born (aired from 1979 to the early 80's), and I noticed in the end credits that the script supervisor was a Christopher Bond. I am wondering if that is the same Christopher Bond that wrote the play Sweeney Todd, later adapted by Hugh Wheeler and Stephen Sondheim. I can't find a mention of this credit anywhere on the Internet in connection with the Bond of Sweeney fame.

No, I think that was his brother, James.

Pierce County‘s (where I live) CoVid positive testing has just exploded in the last several day.  We had over 411 positive today, which doesn’t sound like many, but we aren’t a large county.

Back in September, I bought Bond's script for Sweeney Todd.  I haven't read much of it yet, but even in the first few scenes, it's amazing to see what Sondheim took from Bond's script and turned into lyrics.  Both Anthony's and Sweeney's first lines became lyrics in Sondheim's score.

Speaking of Sondheim, I am wondering if Henrik Egerman (A Little Night Music) has ever been played by an actor who actually plays the cello and doesn't have to pantomime the part.

I've always wondered that and thought it would be really cool...unless it was a professional production and union rules required that the cellist in the pit actually play the song.
