T.O.D.

THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST

I'm prejudiced on this one.  The movie was produced by my friend and publicity client, Stanley Rubinn, and featured another client/friend (Pat Harrington) in a major role.

I could swear I owned a perfect copy of the RCA Living Stereo Chocolate Soldier. I must have given it away in the Big Purge of 2011.

DR Elmore, you mentioned A Carnival in Flanders — a fortuitous reminder, because I bought that on your recommendation but haven’t watched it. It has been taken off the shelf and placed on the watch pile.

I did finish 8 1/2 last night. And man, that’s a tough one. You have to be able to follow it to get it. I mean, I “get” it, but the dialogue is fast and furious and you miss a lot when a line or three go by that you were barely able to read.

I think the answer, short of dropping everything and becoming fluent in Italian, is simply to sit closely and slog through it a couple more times, freeze framing and rewinding, until I really have the gist of each exchange. Eventually, I should be able to just watch and enjoy. But I’m going to have to earn it.

It's a wonderful comedy, but the subtitles are a mess.  I wish Criterion would rescue it.

Just get out your two-disc set of the OBC of Nine. It’s all there with music.

DR Jane no I wasn't wearing sunglasses. I mostly only wear my glasses to drive. I don't wear them outside.  It was the first day that it was so cold that i had a scarf covering my whole face.  My knee is okay. But there is a bit of a bruise. It mostly just hurts if i touch it or go up and down stairs.

The laundry is finished with a few things remaining to be put away.  Then I will chill out for a bit with the cats.  They wear their earmuffs, mittens, and face masks, but I refuse to let them go out and play in the snow.

A FB friend of mine posted this:

= = = = =
♪ I had the craziest dream ♫ about the new West Side Story movie.

Olivia Newton-John was one of the Shark girls, with a short blond bob and a hot pink dress. There was a scene with no music or dialogue of Maria brushing her teeth. And for some reason two women were stomping grapes a la I Love Lucy. The theater stopped the movie in the middle of America to page a doctor in the audience, and it nearly caused a riot.
=- = = = =

Now THAT, I'd love to see.      :)

Thursday afternoon greetings!  Today is Christmas tree day for us.  We’ll get the lights on today and the ornaments tomorrow.  Then we can enjoy it until January 7.  Or longer, because, you know, pandemic.

I enjoy Daniels in almost anything except Knight Rider, if that was the shows title.

I would have loved to see him in A Little Night Music with Glynis Johns.

I forgot! I did see Daniels again on my second visit to A Little Night Music.  I saw the original cast in September 1973 and Daniels replacing :en Cariou in March 1974.  Sadly, Johns was out and we saw Barbara Lang, a beautiful actress, but she wasn't as good as Johns in the role.

William Daniels was as good, if not better, as Len Cariou. I think he brought out more of Egerman's neurotic edge.

I think I must have seen William Daniels in A Little Night Music, too, when I was in NYC for ALA in the summer of 1974.

I’ll try, DR Singdaw.  Actually I could probably post a previous year’s photo, because it doesn’t change much.  We’re pretty traditional around here.

I am glad your knee will be fine.  I find sunglasses keep some of the cold away, and scarfs or winter face coverings out of my eyess.

Good Morning - I hate tech... lately my life is tech... I think I'm pretty good at it, until things don't work like they should.  Anyway, it's been a morning... and that's all I'm saying about that.

Hopefully, the rest of the day will be smooth.   :-)
