I didn't sleep badly, but the time between 4:30 and 5:45 was a complete waste, thanks to Stella's pestering. Thatch was with me until sometime before that, and Annabelle was in her bookcase aerie most of the night.

I am ready to launder the bedding this morning. I think, after several months of trial and error with laundry carts, walkers, canes, dirty and clean laundry that I have found the solution. Except for Stella's short-term escape tsuris, the whole thing went smoothly. The problem is, after several trip[s to and from the basement, my legs want to give up.

DR George, I believe that edition of The Beggar's Opera may be the first to include the music for the songs.

My last show in May, 1979, I directed for the company I started in Middletown, Ohio was Benjamin Britten's version of The Beggar's Opera. DR Ginny was my assistant.

BK, Lucia di Lammermoor? That's an early romantic opera with a fantastic mad scene and a great sextet, but it's rather a nonsensical plot. The opera really centers on the soprano. Who's yours? You might enjoy the comedy of The Barber of Seville from around the same time. I recommend the Glyndebourne production:

I saw Elina Garanca as the lead in Rossini's La Cenerentola, a non-magical version of Cinderella. She was wonderful, but it's not an opera I want to sit through again. Give me Massenet's Cendrillon any day.

I sent my money so that I could view bk's playlet. Within a few minutes, I got an email receipt. A second email was supposed to be forthcoming with the instructions for viewing. That never arrived (and yes, I checked my spam folder). So I sent a follow-up inquiry to The Group Rep, but have received no reply.

BK, I see Garanca has a DVD of Carmen, and that might be interesting. My favorite DVD of Carmen remains Sir Peter Hall's Glyndebourne production of the original opera-comique version with spoken dialogue, with Maria Ewing, at the time Mrs Peter Hall. It begins light, like a musical comedy, and gets darker and darker.

I also like the wonderful film version with Placido Domingo, Julia Migenes, and my friend Faith Esham. although I wish Domingo were 10-15 years younger to play a young man caught in a fatal attraction.

In the past month or so, my internet has been dropping out for 5-15 minutes before coming back on. Yesterday, I finally contacted time Warner, who tells me they're getting lousy signals from my modem. I have a service man coming on monday around 1:00.
