Then we went for a short walk on the river, followed by a walk around an antebellum mansion. I had gone there on my first grade field trip. The buildings weren’t open, but it was beautiful if cold outside.

What's the current Louisville temperature?

It's about 43 out there with a fairly strong breeze. You want to wear your face mask. Keeps you warmer.

We did something called Lights Under Louisville, where you drive through a cave for about 20 minutes underground and look at Christmas lights in displays ranging from the religious to the trendy (Frozen, the Avengers, Justice League, Star Wars).

ChasSmith, your Lolita was delivered on 12//7 but apparently not to you - it went to Watervliet NY wherever that is - trying to get to the bottom of it, but she clearly was overwhelmed at having to ship over 400 of these puppies AND the other three.  It looks like she sent the guy in Watervliet your and HIS package - he obviously didn't think it necessary to contact us about the error, but I'll be contacting him.

Good Afternoon.  Church services went well, cold, but well.  I went to the Target afterward to pick up some beer for the beer bread I'm making as Christmas gifts.  Target didn't seem to have "normal" beer, just all the "light" varieties and a ton of IPA's.  Only in the Bay Area will you find this situation.  Seems as though "real" beer is beneath them - but light beer is fine.  I'm done trying to figure people out

The boys are on the mend. I can't say much more about that because, like the beer, I'm done with that scenario as well.  Also, I can't find my Apple watch.  I think it's gone, I haven't a clue.

Anyway - Happy Sunday to all.

We just ordered a second Baby's first Christmas ornament.  The first company cancelled our order without an explanation.  I guess they did not like my asking where it is.  The question form asks if you still want the item and I said yes.  I am guessing it really hadn't been sent or they couldn't cancel it.

I was hoping they would have it out on display by now.  I don't believe they have a tree.

I wondered how to pronounce that, so I asked my friend Mr. Google.

It's actually quite simple. "WATER-VLEET". Three syllables, and pronounce the "ie" as "ee".

Don't ask me what I thought it might be. I won't tell you.  :)

Since I love Messiah, I try to keep up on current recordings although I purchase few, and too many of the latest suffer from an overload of ornamentation and fast tempi.  My three favorites are these:

Sir Colin Davis' recording from the mid-1960s was the first to shake up the traditional, rather plodding Victorian approach to Händel, and it's really fine with nice tempi and no overload of ornamentation.

Charles Mackerras' recording is from about the same time, and it offer some nice alternates, such as the 12/8 verion of "Rejoice Greatly," and maybe a bit more ornamentation.  I have Mackerras' Oxford University Press edition of the vocal score for Händel's wonderful Semele.

John Butt's recording is less than ten years old, and I think it's the best of the current crop of ultra-baroque editions.

Except for this year (of course), the Masterworks Choral Ensemble hosted a free Messiah sing-along at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.  I've ushered for it a few times, and even participated.  It's always been fun (even when I blew out my voice because I hadn't sung like that in YEARS). ;)

Back from picking up a package.  And Merry Christmas and a perfect wrap up to 2020 - my car was broken into - no damage, and just like three years ago - pretty sure I locked it and I was up until four so when they did it is anyone's guess - they got all the change that I keep there, the iPod, and two tote bags that I'm pretty sure only had trash in them or scripts or whatever -nothing valuable there.  They took everything out of the glove box but there was nothing of value there so I just had to clean up their mess.  I hope karma pays them a very swift visit but I find that karma doesn't usually do that to the right people.  They must have some way to get around the electronic locks - because what are the odds that IF for some reason I didn't lock it, they'd pick that exact night to do it?  Thankfully, these asshats didn't go in the trunk and therefore missed the stuff they could have actually made money on - a wireless mic, two pieces of original art, and a box of CDs.  Last time it happened, same thing - no trunk action.

A friend told that quite a few years ago (probably in the 1980s), his car had been broken into and ALL of his vocal scores had been stolen!  He was a musical director and vocal coach/teacher, so it was ALL the music that he used for his lessons.  It was devastating and really affected his business.  The perps were never caught. :P
