Well, you've read the notes, the notes were stolen, and now it is time for you to post until the thieving cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  I've been robbed twice.  The first time was when I was living alone for the first time (after college) in Lacey between 1993-1998 and I'm pretty sure that I left my front door open.  Dopey me.  From my bedroom, they dumped out a box of VHS tapes (that would not be unwelcome in Larry's VCR ;) ) but probably didn't take any.  I had two VCRs at the time, and they took one (fortunately, the older one) and the corresponding remote.  But they left a brand new 3-VHS set of Star Wars 4-6.  Not really a great loss, in the grand scheme of things.

The other time that I was robbed was when several boxes of CDs of my musicals, and various DVDs were stolen.  That hurt.  I figure I lost over 300 musical cast recordings. :'( Of course, I didn't have any kind of inventory list, so I have no idea what was actually taken, just some things that I remember I had that I no longer did.  That was in 2009.

BK, I am so sorry about your car.  Did you call the police? I know that's often a futile situation.  When Toyland was robbed in 2007, I figured the police would file the report and that would be it. but several years later, they actually caught one of the thieves and I had to be a witness at the trial.

Lost in the Stars was one of Encores! best productions, and I wish it had got a recording.  The recording I mostly listen to the complete Julius Rudel one. Rudel conducted the NY City Opera performances.

This morning I am having a Zoom visit with my friend Ora, ehom I've not seen in a couple of years. When that ends around 11:00, I need to drag out the vacuum and sweep the area under the computer table.  A Time Warner serviceman is coming between 1 and 2:00 to check my cables and modem.

BK, I went to Amazon to check out that recording of Weinberger music you were playing, and I discovered a Weinberger operetta I never knew about! It's from the Komische Oper who produced that Straus Pearls of Cleopatra you liked so much, and I am looking forward to watching this. I'm sure I will get a few Amazon gift certificates for Christmas.

Also, BK, did I ever recommend Smetana's The Bartered Bride, one of my very favorite comic operas, to you? There are a nice DVD available, sung in German, and two DVD sets I am very fond of.

I admit I prefer the Czech Supraphon recording for two reasons: (1)Czech is the language it was written for, and (2)the German edition makes a cut in the Act Three "Dance of the Comedians."

Benackova and Stratas are both wonderful heroines and it's an equal toss up between Dvorsky and Kollo as the object of their affection. I love love love this opera, especially the wonderful Act Two duet for the heroine and mentally challenged young man her parents have arranged for her to marry.

Today is Monday.  I am expected in the dentist chair in about an hour.....but since he is only five minutes away.....I don't have to leave my house for 35 minutes or so....my sister is taking me and will pick me up after the excavation.

I do not know if I will be in any shape to post when I get home.  Time will tell.

Last night DR TCB wrote that THE YEAR I LIVED IN MIDDLETOWN would be a volume of his memoirs, but that most of the men in his life there were dead.....

I will only say what Ethel Merman once said in a similar situation:

"I could have told you that in Middletown."

My car was broken into once while I was in a rehearsal at the old Phoenix Theatre in Indy at 9th Street & Pennsylvania St.  Downtown.

They took all my change from the center console, but there was nothing else there.

I had locked the car so there was nothing else I could do.  The passenger door had been forced open....but it was fine and no windows were broken.

Mention of The Bartered Bride always leads me back to A Little Night Music:

The tenor on the boat that we charted
Belching The Bartered Bride.
Ah, how we laughed
Ah, how we cried...

TOD:

My home has been burglarized twice. They were looking for a gun both times, which they didn’t find, since I don’t have one. They also emptied my change bucket both times.

I was lying in bed awake and just about to get up this morning, when all of a sudden my iPhone and iPad started chiming to let me know there was incoming email. And they kept chiming. Sometimes you'll get two or three things at once, and I'm used to that, but this time the chiming didn't stop. It kept going till I lost count after a dozen or so, and I thought I might be getting hit with a barrage of spam. So I just let it continue before looking at anything, and it finally died down.

And then I looked. Not spam, just a bunch of regular people and companies I'm totally familiar with, all legitimate stuff, but I could tell these were things I hadn't yet seen. These were dated from yesterday the 20th back to lat Monday the 14th. Forty-seven (47) emails in all, that had been errant and truant. And I hadn't noticed because other stuff had been coming in normally.

On further investigation I now knew why I seemed to have missed a couple of eBay correspondences. Because there they were, along with a few CastRecL daily digests, a couple of credit card statements, and a few other things that are legitimate but which I generally ignore.

Finally, there was a personal thing that should have arrived yesterday -- a lovelier than lovely e-Christmas card from our own DR Elmore. Thank you very much, sir!
