The streets aren't quiet in the San Fernando Valley - the freeway looked jammed so I took surface streets to the mail place.  When I went in there were only two people there - when I left two minutes later there was a line out the door.  Who ARE these people who need to ship packages the day before Christmas - it's insanity and I'm sure half of them were Amazon returns.  Speaking of Amazon returns, one of the packages today had the wrong CD so I contacted that seller - it was an Amazon bar code screw-up - they've never even had the CD I ordered.  So, they're refunding me my four bucks and I'll try to find another cheap copy.

Keith needed bananas which meant a quick trip to Safeway.  It was busier than we like but not too bad.  Since we didn't buy much we were out fairly quickly.

We had planned on walking at the cemetery after parking, and before shopping.  There was ice on the ground and we decided it would be safer to shop, go home, and then walk in the sun.

I went out briefly. The streets were quiet. The Italian restaurant with the bargain lunches was actually pretty busy. After picking up my food I spotted a $10 bill on the ground. I put it in the tip jar. I just hope whoever lost it didn't come back for it.

Maybe other restaurants were busy for Christmas Eve.

I hope they were. Louise's Trattoria has been sending emails about their take-out packages. They sound great. It sounds like lots of people are signing up for the Christmas dinner package (serves 4-6).

Many small business owners don't have much marketing sense. They may be good cooks, but not good marketers. I think a package sounds more interesting than one's normal a la carte.

For us, today is just like any other day.

I have several friends who feel that way, but I feel the need for special days, even if it's just a Me Day for some downtime. I am very happy to have Me Days -- I don't need to go anywhere.

The luminarias are lit. And the first of the cookies have been handed out to the neighbor children.

My next-door-neighbor said half of his office has covid. So he'll be working from home for a couple of weeks. I hope everyone is ok. They tend to have people over quite a bit.

Also, his saguaro cactus is leaning and is going to fall over soon. He sent a photo to the landlord; I hope he will have it taken care of soon. It won't fall on my house; it will fall on his.

Four years ago we spent Christmas Eve walking along the beautiful San Antonio River Walk.  Fortunately DR John was in town that Christmas and we able to see him the night before Christmas Eve.

I pulled this photo off of the internet.

By the time we got online, shortly after noon, to order our dinner from Olive Garden there were no time slots available for curbside pick-up.  Instead we ordered from Bravo Italian Cucina, picked up at 5pm, and had a delightful Christmas Eve dinner with enough left over for another meal.

We were finished with dinner in time to watch “Christmas in Connecticut” on TCM and now we’re watching “The Bishop’s Wife.”

We were chatting with Bryan on the 23rd, his birthday, and made him late for his pick up time.  I hope he still got his birthday dinner.  It was the day the restaurant did their Christmas dinner.  I had no idea about time slots for pick up.

Ate some tuna pasta salad and am now having a chicken pot pie - one of those frozen Marie Callender's things but I'm not eating it frozen, which was tempting given the crappy day it's been.  Bah Humbug.

So, the version of Street Scene that I bought is the one BK panned last week, the one with Paolo Szot. Oh well.

I also got an opera version of Sister Carrie on CD and a Ricky Ian Gordon (Elmore's favorite) opera called The House without a Christmas Tree.

And everybody's favorite, John Mauceri, conducting The Cradle Will Rock supposedly with the original orchestration.
