I just finished Beau Travail, a 1990s take on Billy Budd, but set in the French Foreign Legion. It's a visually stunning movie with some great performances. There are certain scenes of the soldiers training in which the director used selections from Britten's Billy Budd for the background. The final scene is a dance in a 1990s club and it conveys such a sense of liberation, whether the character wants to be free or not and whether the scene is real or a dream.
