So Many Big Actors, So Few Tony Slots By JESSE McKINLEY

Very interesting NY Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/04/theater/newsandfeatures/04tony.html?

Here's a bit of it:
Take the Hollywood names in the running: James Earl Jones ("On Golden Pond"), Denzel Washington ("Julius Caesar"), Alan Alda ("Glengarry Glen Ross"), John C. Reilly ("A Streetcar Named Desire"), Jeff Goldblum and Billy Crudup (both from "The Pillowman"). Add to that list respected stage actors like James Naughton and Richard Thomas (both from "Democracy"), Adam Arkin ("Brooklyn Boy"), Bill Irwin ("Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"), Boyd Gaines and Philip Bosco (two of the "Twelve Angry Men"), and Brian F. O'Byrne ("Doubt"), and you have more than a dozen leading men for five slots.

I first became aware of TFNM when many years ago I read the infamous movie magazine article about Cindy Williams' "nudie" past, and what man would have her now....

I then read about it in Danny Peary's Cult Films book - then found a video in a $5 bin - so I purchased it.  This was sometime in the 1980's, I would guess.  I didn't watch it for quite some time, but when I did, I laughed so hard, I watched it again.

Fast forward to being on the site for awhile, and TFNM DVD 2-disk set arrived, and I bought my very own AUTOGRAPHED copy!  The commentaries and documentary are as funny as the movie!

As for favorite "cult" films:

The First Nudie Musical
Harold and Maude
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Shock Treatment (yes, I enjoyed this movie...didn't love it, but I did enjoy it)

LAST NIGHT'S ALIAS

More ALIAS spoilers

To the best of recollection, nothing of import happened during those few seconds that you were switching out tapes. Of course, the glasses guy was murdered by Sophia, but I'm guessing you saw that.

Yes, but did they show her do it, or just have Nadia and bf see him dead? (i only saw the latter).

Actually I wasn't switching tapes, but since it "goes over 10pm" I was taping the end on my other VCR while I watched the beginning. :)

Question, did any Idol fans see the PrimeTime expose on Paula Abdul?
I just fast forwarded through it.  And while I find Corey Clark to be slightly creepy and not that credible, I think that he backed up his story fairly well.

His friends knew about it and met Paula.  His parents knew and his mom spoke to her.  They were at a club together.  The sprint guy remembered paula buying corey a phone (and going to the store together).  Corey had phone logs (which i presume were proven to be to her phone number).  And he had messages left by her on his cell.

Anybody have any idea what is gonna happen to Paula now?

Yes DR Vixmom, Bo is the bearded guy you mentioned.

Btw, there is only Carrie (blonde), Vonzell (black, slim with long dark hair), and Anthony (blond) left (and Bo).

TOD:

When I taught aspiring teachers at Miami University, we used a very creative feature-length comedy about the research process called "The Mind's Treasure Chest."  In 3 school years, I watched it at least 110 times.  Here's a synopsis:

The story follows the likeable, if slightly shallow, high school student Jack Patterson in his quest to defeat his opponent for student council president. Jack's main problem is that kids in the school don't think he's as smart as the other candidate. In an attempt to prove them wrong, Jack takes up a dare from a teacher to teach the class about John Kennedy. Through the help of a dedicated librarian and other friends, Jack spends a night finding out about the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs... and more than a little about leadership and himself.

HAPPY B-DAY, GEORGE.  I looked and looked for you in the background of Antiques Roadshow, but never saw you.

My TFNM Story:  Well, believe it or not, there is a great synchronicity in how I first became aware of BK's film.  I went to see a double feature at a little art house here in Portland.  That double feature would change my life forevermore.  It was the Jessica Lange feature Frances coupled with Frances' own Come and Get It.  Upon leaving the theater in the window box outside was the one sheet for the next attraction.  You guessed it:  The First Nudie Musical!!

Has it been thirty years of nudity already? Time flies when you're naked.

What am I talking about? I had to get up so early after only four hours of sleep that I don't even know what I'm saying any more. Scary to think that I just finished up taking an essay test. I got to school to take my first final and went over to the quickie mart to get a Cherry Coke, only to find out that it didn't open for another half hour. So I sat on the sidewalk for half an hour waiting.

Happy birthday, Dear Reader George! May your day be filled with Cherry Coke that you don't have to sit on a sidewalk for half an hour for.

DR GINNY - I love movies when the lead characters also find out "something about themselves" - sort of like the previously mentioned MYRA BRECKINRIDGE.

You cannot really be comparing what Paula Abdul allegedly did to what Michael Jackson is standing trial for, right?

What could President Gerald Ford and Annette Funicello Gilardi be discussing in the Cabinet Room?  Why wasn't the tape machine working that day?

Happy B'day, George!

Happy Anniversary, BK!

BK, do you ever wonder what might have happened if you had taken Roger Corman's offer?  Do you think you might have ended up in his stable of directors, cranking out low-budget horrors and biker films and working your way up to esteemed auteur like Coppola and others did?

I'll have to think about counter-culture films...don't know if I have any...though I liked Ben's choice of THE RULING CLASS...But is it a counter-culture movie?  Probably for Britain.

DRJennifer, I believe Michael Jackson will be acquitted, even though I think he's a mess and totally guilty.  I believe Ms Abdul is equally guilty, not of child molestation or pedophilia, but of lack of ethics and probably lack of taste.  Do I believe she'll be bounced off the moronic AMERICAN IDOL?  Probably not, although she deserves to be.

I'm up, I'm up.  I needed that LOOOOONG sleep and I feel marvy.  One of the reasons I slept so late is because the birds were quiet all night.  Another reason is because it is still really dark out - very gray.
